Sam’s POV
Brittany and I kept chatting about random nonsense until the lunch bell rang.
“We’ve literally learned nothing today,” I said, stretching.
“Maybe the math teacher isn’t in school,” Brittany shrugged.
“Yeah… he never misses class. Weird.”
“What are you having for lunch?” she asked.
“Sweet, hot breakup,” I said with a smirk.
She groaned. “So, you’re not eating?”
“Nope. But you should get popcorn — you’re about to watch a painful, beautiful drama.”
“You’re insane,” she laughed, shaking her head.
---
We walked into the cafeteria, and there she was — Sandra, sitting alone. Perfect.
“Just what I wanted,” I whispered. Brittany rolled her eyes and went to grab fries and lemonade.
I slid into the seat next to Sandra like it was the most natural thing in the world. Brittany sat in a corner, watching with an amused grin. Every time I winked at her, she bit her lip to stop laughing.
It didn’t take long before Sandra was giggling at my jokes. When I felt her guard drop, I leaned in, lowering my voice.
“Um… Sandra, there’s something I want to tell you.”
She blushed lightly. “Go on. I’m listening.”
“Our names fit perfectly together,” I said.
She tilted her head. “What do you mean?”
“Sam. Sandra. Sam-Sandy.” I grinned. “So… why don’t we make it real?”
Her cheeks flushed pink. “I still don’t—”
“Be my girlfriend,” I said, looking right into her eyes.
Her jaw dropped. “Oh my God, Sam… this is all I’ve ever wanted!”
“So… that’s a yes?” I teased.
“Yes! A million times yes!” she squealed.
I kissed her palm. “You just made my day, baby.”
---
We decided to take a walk, so we headed to the parking lot. Brittany tailed us, sliding into her car and rolling the window down just enough to eavesdrop.
Sandra leaned against me while I leaned on my car, my hand brushing against her arm.
“You’re really beautiful,” I told her softly. “I don’t know why guys haven’t noticed you before.”
“They have,” she admitted shyly. “But I’ve been waiting for the right person.”
“And the others?”
“I rejected them all.”
---
That’s when I saw her — Alice.
Tears streamed down her cheeks, and even from here, I could feel the heat of her anger.
“Sam,” she choked, “I went all over school looking for you… and someone told me you were in the parking lot kissing another girl.”
Sandra frowned. “Is she your sister?”
“No, baby, she’s not,” I said flatly.
Alice’s voice trembled. “Sam… after our weekend? After everything you said to me?”
“That was your weekend,” I replied coldly. “Not mine.”
Her eyes widened. “But you told me you liked me!”
“That was just to make you smile,” I said with a shrug. “Sandra is the only one I want. Not some cheap fling like you.”
“Cheap?” she gasped. “After you said I meant the world to you?”
“Listen, I was managing you,” I said, my tone dripping with disgust. “But when I saw this angel, I knew she was the one. I’d drop anyone — even a plum pig — just to be with her.”
Alice’s voice cracked. “All this… just because you found someone new?”
“No,” I corrected, smirking. “Because I found someone real. Don’t come near me again, Alice. I’ve been clear — I do. not. like. you.”
---
I took Sandra’s hand and walked away, leaving Alice standing there, shaking. Brittany finally went over — but instead of comforting Alice… she folded her arms and said something that made Alice’s face go pale.
