Sam’s POV
After embarrassing her like that, I went looking for Brittany. She was wearing that I’m going to kill you face, but before I could even say anything, she burst out laughing.
“Dube… why?” she said between laughs.
“I was very, very tired,” I chuckled.
“You always make them feel like they’re the worst,” she said, wiping tears from her eyes. “They’re females, you know, right?”
I laughed again.
“So, who’s your next catch?” she asked, smiling knowingly.
“Her name’s Vera. She’s almost always in the library… and I think she’s rich,” I replied, grinning.
“I’m going for her next,” I added just before the teacher walked into class.
The rest of the day dragged on. I heard Sandra had gone home—honestly, who wouldn’t after what happened?
When the dismissal bell rang, I grabbed my bag and headed home. After a quick gym session, I crashed into bed. Big day tomorrow, I thought, smiling as sleep took over.
Morning came far too quickly. I showered, went downstairs, and found Brittany with the rest of the family at the table. I took a bite of the toast Brittany made before heading out.
“Hey! Won’t you wait for me?” she called.
“You’ve got your own damn car, Bri!” I shouted back from outside.
“I thought maybe we could race or something,” she said, stepping out with a smile.
“Nah, I don’t want to mess with my baby. Just got her, remember?” I grinned, sliding into my car before driving off to school.
As usual, eyes followed me the moment I stepped in—boys glaring, girls practically drooling. I was used to it by now. Brittany joined me in class soon after.
“How’s this going to be?” she asked.
“Well… we’ll see about that during lunch.”
History was my least favorite subject, but I still pulled straight A’s. I spent most of the period scrolling on my phone until the lunch bell rang.
Quietly, I slipped away to the library. And there she was—exactly as described. Vera. She was stunning: long black silk hair, big baby-blue eyes, small lips.
I pretended to browse the shelves before grabbing a random book and taking the seat next to her, acting like my attention was buried in the pages.
“What’s the heartbreaker doing in the library? Looking for more ways to break hearts?” she teased with a smile.
“Ouch, girl… I’m not as bad as you think,” I said with a grin. She blushed.
“I haven’t really seen you around. Are you a transfer student?” I asked, pretending not to know her.
“I’ve been here all my life. You just never noticed… not that I expected you to,” she said softly.
“Wow… you’re pretty. Can we get dinner sometime?” I flashed my killer smile—the one no girl says no to.
“Yeah… of course,” she said, smiling back.
I liked her already. We exchanged contacts, and I headed back to class.
