Chapter 2
The hardest day of my life was almost 5 years ago, and nothing has felt right since I walked out leaving Kendal alone in that bed……
Tydus P.O.V.
I awoke suddenly, looking around to confirm where I was. It is strange waking up in my old home. It has been almost 5 years since I have slept here. Staring at the clock is not getting anything I must do done. It is almost 6:30am when I finally roll out the bed and head to the connecting bathroom. Run threw my usual morning routine and walk downstairs to the kitchen.
“Good morning” I say to my mother as she is mixing eggs and passing things to the other kitchen help.
“Good morning, Tydus, it is so good to have you home! What would you like for breakfast my love”? she asks
“I think I am going to pass this morning, thank you. I have a lot to get done, I am not really a breakfast person, I will grab an early lunch.” I tell her and she tosses an apple at me anyways while shaking her head and smiling.
As I walk out to the field, I realize how much I really missed it! In our pack my father believed everyone should be able to fight. If not to defend the pack, then to at least be able to defend themselves and their family. So, everyone trains, at the age of 5 we start teaching stances and simple movements all the way to the elders who are just keeping agile and strong.
As I walk closer do not want them to notice me so I walk around the back of the field where there are thick trees and just watch for a little while. I need to get an update on training routines and schedules I think to myself. I will get with Fernado, the head of training, later today to get that. After assessing for about 20 minutes, I walk out of the tree line, and everyone stop moving and look to me.
“Carry on” I say with more force than needed but I am not here to be a distraction. Most go back to what they were doing without a second glance at me. Fernando comes running over. He is one of my best friends, we grew up together and it is great to see him again. I was not shocked to find out he was head of training. He is very hard working, disciplined, and loyal. As he reaches me, with a smug smile he punches me in the arm.
“Hey, it’s great to have you back, Alpha. Man, you have grown”. He says. I am still getting used to the reality that I am going to be the alpha in the next few month, my father will pass the title down to me. “Stop that s**t, I am not my father” I say chuckling. “I am still the same old Ty, just a little older and yes, the growth spurt hit me, but I think I may have taken yours as well. You haven’t changed much at all”. I say smiling. Fernando is about 6’ and he takes after his mother’s Spanish side with black hair, olive skin, and dark brown eyes.
“I grew just not as much as you, you look great! I wish I had more time to just stand and talk but I have the junior trainees over there and I really need to get back. Do you need anything from me right now or can we catch up later?” he asks
“No, I was just checking out the ground assessing the routine, getting a feel of how things are now. It has been almost 5 years bro. it is crazy how things have changed. We will catch up soon.” I say.
With a nod of his head, he turns and runs back toward his junior trainees who are between 9 and 14 years of age. It is great to be home even if I am preparing and adjusting for the new role in the pack. It is what I have been training for my whole life. I need to go find my father, maybe I will run to the city and check out the offices there as well.
Walking back into the house, I spot my father immediately walking from the kitchen. He sees me and smiles brightly. He has always been supportive and a great role model. I always thought he was too strict. I mean I was a pretty good kid and didn’t get into much trouble, but now I understand the responsibility and role I am taking from him.
It is a lot of responsibility to run a pack and still be a good husband and father. He was made alpha when he was 17 years old. Before he could even finish his first year with the council, his father was killed in an ambush. Uncle Raymond, who was actually not my father's brother but a member of the council, helped my father take over the pack. He came to the pack and taught my father what he needed to know to be an alpha and their bond grew so close that, when I was born, he was practically close enough blood in the family.
I smile at him as I walk up and embrace him in a hug. We see eye to eye now, when I left, he was still a head taller than me. I have his dark complexion and strong chin and nose; I am almost a carbon copy of my father. The only thing I inherited from my mother is her eye color and curly hair. My eyes are two different colors. My right is a pale hazel green color, the left being more a honey yellow shade than green, they have always brought me so much unwanted attention!
“Good morning father, it is great to be home! I was just out observing the grounds and training.” I say returning his smile.
“It is your first day back son, I have not retired yet. So, relax a little, it has been a long time since you left and you deserve a little break!” He says still smiling.
“I think you might be right; I could relax today after the long flight yesterday. I was going to go to the office in the city but maybe I will just go shopping and site seeing. It has been a while and I could use some new clothes. I don’t think jeans and a T-shirt will cut it for the office.” I say back.
“Sounds good son, would you like some company? I can sneak away for a few hours. We can hang out, grab some lunch.” He asks. “No thank you, I think I still know my way around.” I say, smiling.
“Alright. Well, let me know if you need anything and we will catch up later” he says as he turned to walk away.
I stood there for a minute contemplating what I should do next with my new found “relaxing” time. I decide to go shopping and visit the city I have been away from for so long. As I walk to the garage, a face passes through my mind and I begin to wonder if I will see her again. Will she forgive me for the lies and hurt? Will she be my destined? With that, I get into an all-black Range Rover that I have chosen to drive today because it has room for whatever I choose to do while out. I start the engine and pull out the garage we have and speed towards the main road headed for the city I have missed so much!
