It was just a dream, nothing more than just a dream. Oh, how I wish to go back. Please wait for me. I am coming back to you….
Kendal P.O.V.
I awoke from my nap kind of lost. Realizing I was in Morgan’s bed and that I really did see him today, it was not just a dream, I exhaled, sat up and put my feet on the floor. Getting up and going to the connecting bathroom, I did my business and noticed the house was still quiet. How long had I been asleep?
Going back to the room and grabbing my phone off the bedside table, it was now 4pm. They should have been back. I had no missed calls, just a text from Mark. I didn’t open it but put my phone down and walked out the room and down the hall, still not hearing anyone. I looked in the living room and it was still quiet, the TV turned off. Feeling like something was wrong, I went into the kitchen, I noticed spaghetti sauce on the stove and them in the backyard. Morgan was sitting with a glass of wine and Chance playing on the swing set that Morgan had put in right after she moved in just for him.
Opening the patio door, she looked up at me. “Did you have a good sleep? We got back and I figured you could use the sleep, so we tried to stay quiet.” I breathed a sigh of relief “Thank you, I feel so much better now. I am still shocked that he is back, but I can control the water works now.” I laughed thinking about how I couldn’t turn them off earlier.
“The sauce should be about done; I am going to put the noodles on since you’re up. I am starving, we should be able to eat in about 10 minutes.” She said to me.
Standing up, I called out “come on Chance, it's time to wash up for dinner, baby.” He came running up hugging me. “I missed you, feel better mama?” He asked, squeezing me like he hadn’t seen me in days. “Yes, I just needed a hug from you to feel all better. Did you have fun with Aunt Morgan while I was sleeping?” I asked. “Yes, Momo is always fun mama, I saw a man today. He had yellow color eyes like this one.” Pointing at his right eye. “Oh yea, did he talk to you?” I asked, trying not to show my worry on my face. “No, he just looked at me and left the store with nothing” he said. “Alright, go wash your hands, dinner should be done in a few.” I say opening the door.
Walking into the kitchen, Morgan had the noodles cooking and was sitting at the island with her wine in hand and a glass next to her for me. Chance ran for the bathroom to wash his hands and I sat down. “Hey, did you see the guy who Chance was telling me about? “I ask Morgan. “Yea, I saw him, he looked at us, then turned and walked out the store quickly. It was strange, when we came out, I didn’t see him anywhere. Maybe it was just a coincidence that his eyes were that strange yellow shade.” She answered quickly. Standing, I stirred the noodles and got the strainer out. Chance came back in just as I was putting the noodles and sauce on a plate for him. He sat quietly at the table spooning it in his mouth. He has a big appetite for only being 4. He is going to be big like his father. I think to myself as I pick at my plate, I am not really hungry but the wine is tasting extra sweet today taking a sip of my 2nd glass full. When he finished his plate, I take it to the sink with mine and Morgan’s and started washing the dishes.
“Chance what movie did you pick for us tonight? I asked him. He smiled and said “Ninja Turtles” then started laughing. “Oh boy, again? are you sure you don’t want a new movie?” We have watched it enough times, I think I could recite it word for word. “No come on mama, it’s Momo favorite too” he says as I look at Morgan with squinted eyes as she shrugs taking his hand and walking towards the TV. I know I am defeated so I settle down on the couch to let the dishes dry trying to not let the day ruin my night. Change is coming, I feel it in my bones. I have always had a knack for telling when thing were going to happen. ESP, some might call it. I am going to enjoy these little moments while I can!
When I walked into the pack house everything seemed quiet. The usual hustle and bustle of the staff and pack members was missing. Then I heard a scream in the kitchen, as if someone was being murdered. I ran there at full speed to see the door blocked by a lot of people. Pushing my way thru, I see the commotion there on the floor. The woman laying there in full blown labor. The doctor giving her direction to push. My mother holding her hand, giving encouragement.
I, being the male alpha, next in line to lead the pack, had never seen anything like this. As the mother pushed, yelling in pain and exhaustion, I was awe-struck at how strong this creature, that wouldn’t stand a chance in a fight with me, could be strong enough to bring life into the world. One final push and the pup was here. The woman who I didn’t even know her name had done it. The first cry from the pup’s mouth earned cheers from all in the room.
I started ushering out the people standing in the kitchen while my mom was helping to clean up the woman on the floor. I almost forgot I needed to see my father about what happened in the city.
“Do you need my help mother?” I asked, “no darling I think we can handle it, thank you for getting everyone out of here.” She replied. I walked towards my father’s office on the first floor and could see the door cracked and I could hear muffled voices coming from inside.
I knocked as I pushed the door open to see my father leaning on the front of his desk talking to his second in command Michael and his third, Nick. “Father” I said while nodding to the other guys. “Welcome home Ty,, it's good to see you! Alpha was just telling us about your return and how you have grown.” Mike said while leaning in for a hug. Both men have seen me grow up and are like uncles to me. The last time I seen them I was still shorter than both and now I am almost a head taller than both of them.
“I assume you are here for something other than a reunion by the look on your face son, what is it?” my father asked.
“While I was in the city today some things happened that I need to tell you,” I said while thinking if I should tell him about Kendal or not. He never liked Kendal; he never gave me a reason except that I should wait for my destined.
“Well?” he said calmly. “While I was driving in the city, I smelt a rogue. I couldn’t stop instantly but when I came back there was no trace of his scent anywhere. Vincent is great at tracking, but he couldn’t get a trace of the rogue’s scent. It was as though it vanished.” I said.
My father, Mike, and Nick all looked at each other as if they were thinking the same thing. My father began to speak “ We have had similar reports from a few pack members that have gone to the city in the last few weeks. For a rogue to hide his scent that quickly would mean a potion of sorts from a strong witch. You have confirmed my suspicions, son. I will reach out to the coven not far from here and see if they can help us get rid of this little problem.” “Did you see anything else? A person around, something out of place, anything that could give us a clue as to who we are looking for?” asked Mike.
“I did not when I was driving. I thought I had seen someone in the tree line by the park, but we could not smell anything when we were there. I will go back tomorrow with a few trackers and see if we can’t pick up something.” I said.
“Alright son, well I have some calls to make and see how soon I can get a witch here to help. I hope we can get to the bottom of this without a big fight.” My father said, grabbing for the phone. I took my leave and headed to find my mother. I have to tell her about Kendal.
