My Mate

1067 Words
June's Pov. No one could stand up to him, the mad king. His name carried fear, his presence demanded silence and loyalty, and his wrath was not one to be messed with. I've read about his cruelty, the man who was cast into the forest by his father and had fought his way to where he is now, The Monster Of The Night. Everything I read in the book couldn't prepare me for the man himself, and that's how I found myself traveling with him to the North. “Did I marry a mute bride?” He said, snapping me out of my thoughts; I stared at him, not knowing what to say. If I say the wrong thing, would he behead me right here and now? I heard a voice growl slowly inside me, faint. ‘He wouldn't do anything to us, as long as we're obedient’ How could I forget that Gwendolyn was also a werewolf, so obviously, the wolf inside her would talk but couldn't come out since Gwen's body was too weak to handle the wolf shifting? ‘What do we do?’ I used my mind voice to communicate with the wolf, which just stirred with nervousness. Oh goddess, I was f****d. Trapped in a powerless body with a wolf who was just as useless as a plush toy and a fate that has been sealed off with death by no other than this Man. “I ask again, Did I marry a mute bride?” His voice came again; this time, his eyes were looking into mine as if he could see the answer that he was looking for there. Should I just keep quiet and pretend to be mute? That won't be a terrible idea, at least I could buy myself some silence. But if he were to find out, my life would be over in a second. “N-No” it came out more softly than I had intended it to be. “I'm not mute, Alpha” I nearly puked at calling him ‘Alpha’. But it was a sign of respect and submission. At least he wouldn't find any treacherous act that he would use as an excuse to end my life right here. “Good,” He smirked. “Take off your clothes” I froze. Then cough a bit before raising my head to look at him. “Excuse me?” Hoping I didn't hear him well. “Take your clothes off,” He repeated. Who does he think he was to blunt out that as a command without caring how I'll feel? Does he think that because I'm to be his Bride, I'll jump at any opportunity to sleep with him? “I'm sorry, I can't. Alpha” though as much as I hate calling him Alpha, I just have to do it as a symbol of respect. “Can't or won't?” His eyebrows rose in a challenge. And I could see the excitement in his eyes, he was enjoying this– my nervousness. “Whichever you decide to fit into your vocabulary.” I smiled, but it didn't quite reach my eyes. “Very well then, halt.” The carriage we were inside stopped, and I initially thought he was going to leave me to walk to The North. “Miss Gwendolyn will ride alone while I'll run with Regan,” He said, adjusting his clothes as he stepped out of the carriage. Regan? Who the hell was Regan? “But Sir, the journey is quite far” One of the wolf warriors that accompanied us protested. “It will be an exercise then, for me to let loose” He touched the wolf's shoulder before turning towards me. “Would you like to join me?” Join you my ass! I wanted to say but I bit my tongue back and shook my head. Her body can't handle wolf shifting; if I decide to join him, I'll end up walking to the North. And this body doesn't seem fit for that. “very well then” he smiled. “ C’mon Regan” He ran a bit before shifting into his wolf form, big black furs and red eyes that glint of silver. The wolf's eyes stared into mine, and the wolf inside me bowed in submission before stirring uncomfortably. I know about the wolf bond with their humans. I mean, I've read about it, but right now, Gwen's wolf was acting abnormal for an animal that is too weak to reveal itself. She was threatening to come out, asking me to let her out. The next thing that came out made me unable to remove my gaze from Him. ‘Mate’ She said, growling. ‘Our mate’ Mate. That was out of the ordinary, something was wrong. In the tale of the doomed bride of the alpha, Gwen's mate was meant to be his brother. Why then was Gwen's wolf saying that this wolf, no this monster was her mate? ‘Mate’ she growled again. ‘let me meet our mate’ Her voice was getting stronger as her will to come out, but if she did, if I should wolf shift right now, then I'd die. Gwen is the weakest omega in the tale and has been sheltered all her life as a result of that. ‘Stay inside’ I said, closing the carriage door to block the view of Hadrian's wolf in hopes she'll calm down. I peeped out the window, only to see Hadrian's wolf dashing off into the forest with swiftness. With him out of sight, Gwen's wolf could finally stop whatever madness she was displaying. ‘You should've let me meet our mate' She growled. ‘And kill me in return? No thank you’ I whispered. ‘Why? Do you hate our mate?’ Will I say I hate Hadrian? I've read everything about him, how he made his bride suffer before sending her off to a fate far worse than death to become a s*x worker for his pack of wolf warriors. I fear walking down that fate the author of the book had sealed for her, so yes, I hate Hadrian, and I refuse to accept him as a mate. Not when he isn't supposed to be my mate in the first place. He's the Villain in this story and I'll make sure he remains that way.
