Chapter 5
WHEN THEY ARRIVED home, Tom walked out into the backyard and looked at the sky, and for some reason, Noah had followed him outside. “You know what?” Tom said. “The sky is absolutely free of clouds, so I think I’m going to work on my tan for a bit before I take that shower. There are two beach loungers if you want to join me.”
“Sure,” Noah said.
In the house, Tom went to his room and stripped, picked up a discarded sock, went into the bathroom to retrieve a towel, wrapped it around his waist, and returned to the patio. He carefully positioned his chair so that it was pointed at the sun, and settled down on his back. Then he unrolled the sock over his genitals so that they were protected from the sun.
