CHAPTER 12: Unwelcome Guests

1328 Words
Aviana's POV Damian kept to his word. Before the crack of dawn the next morning, we were out of the Moonstone pack and on our way to his home. The silence was deafening as we journeyed through the forest. As the Lycan King, Damian traveled with several men and guards, two heavily armed people on each side while one was stationed at our back and in front. We made use of horse ride and since I was an unexpected addition, we all had to share one carriage. After what Damian said to me last night, I couldn't stop thinking about it and when I saw him the next morning, the feelings rushed to the surface. I also couldn't stop thinking about the baby in my belly. I have no idea how far along I was and it's only a matter of time before it became visible. I only had a limited window to either come clean to Damian or … make him believe the child is his. That thought rides me up until the carriage slows to a stop and Lucas snaps his gaze to the side. Then he looks to Damian. “We're here. Are you ready?” Damian just shrugs, appearing quite calm. “No matter what they have to say, the Council has to accept my decision.” My ears perked up even though I was trying hard not to eavesdrop. What decision? What Council? I wasn't able to get any answers as I got distracted by huge, black gates opening up to reveal the most gorgeous city I've ever seen. Having grown up in Moonstone Pack all my life, I had thought that I had seen and explored all areas of wealth but what is before me is far bigger than anything I've seen. Guards lined the entrance, each person bowing as our carriage ambled past. I could make out huge buildings in the distance, thick trees and benches littering the street. My eyes were peeled to the window as I soaked up each view. The streets were clean and tidy, people mingling about. In the corner, you could see families bonding, mates spending time together, all loved up. It was a huge contrast from where I was coming from that I had to look away, casting my eyes down to my fingers. I pulled on a thread that was sticking out of my cloth, my insecurities all rising to the surface. Am I pretty enough for the Lycan King? Can I fit in or even hope to make friends? Even though being lonely and alone in a new place is more better than rotting in an underground cell, I wanted more. The carriage came to a halt, jolting me out of my thoughts. Lucas jumped out without a word and Damian made a move to follow. “Uh, where are you going?!” My voice came out harsher than I expected so I asked again. “I mean, am I coming with you?” “No. I have important duties to attend to.” Damian says, flashing a smile. “Ambrose will take you to my home and you can make yourself comfortable.” “Uh, how long will you be gone?” I breathed out, fear gripping my insides. Damian night not be my favourite person at the moment but he was the only familiar face I knew. I don't appreciate being cast into an unfamiliar environment without some form of help. “An hour or two at most.” He replied, looking at my hands which had been tightly clutching the gem of my dress. “Will you be fine?” I raised my eyes to meet his and for a second, I wanted to blurt out ‘no’ but if I was going to claim the queen title then I needed to start acting like it. I reclined back, loosening the death grip I had on my dress, forcing every tensed muscle to relax. “Yeah, of course.” He nods once and gets down, leaving me alone with my thoughts once again. Less than five minutes later, the carriage comes to a halt and while I think that we've finally gotten to the house, I'm startled by a brusque knock on the door. My eyes fly up in surprise. “H-hello?” There's a light shuffling sound outside the door then followed my muffled protests coming from a male. I was starting to get apprehensive and my heart was beating so fast, it threatened to jump out of my chest. “Madam, pl…please… the King will not be pleased if y-you…” was the only audible thing I heard before the door was rudely wrenched open and I came face to face with one of the most beautiful ladies I've ever seen. She had a small curvy build and short black hair but her eyes held a fierce fire that made her seem intimidating. Those eyes raked up and down my body, the look so intense it felt like she was stripping me naked. “So you're the girl, huh?” She blurted out after a minute of silence. Next to her, a guard shifted on his feet uncomfortably, his eyes darting around the room, wishing to be anywhere else but here. “E…excuse me?” I managed to croak out through dry lips. “The mate that my brother picked from that tiny, faraway pack.” She clarified, arching a brow. “You're her, aren't you?” I blinked slowly, not quite sure how to respond to that question. “Ye-yes?” The uncertainty in my tone made it sound more like a question than a reply. “For someone who wants to lead and be a Queen, you're quite unremarkable.” She spat out, once again looking at me but this time with a hint of disgust. The way she spoke to me made me stiffen. “Did you come all the way down here to insult me? Because I have to tell you… I've heard worse.” “Oh, I know!” She snorted, placing a hand on her hip. “And not only have you heard worse but you've done worse too. I know about your past and how you're a…” she lowered her voice but it didn't change the intensity of her word. “.... A killer!” I froze, both from shock and anger. I didn't say anything for the first few seconds and in that moment, so many emotions raced through my head. Like how did she know about the lies that Patricia and Aldric cook up against me? It's been only a few hours we left so… Also, how dare she judge me without even knowing me? That anger spurred me to speak and I didn't hold back. “First of, I am not a killer! I would never hurt anyone and secondly, who the f**k are you to judge me?” I retorted hotly, staring dagger at her. “You have no idea who I am, what I've done or the s**t I endured to get here so I refused to be talked down by you!” I cut my gaze to the guard who appeared to be cowering. “Take me home!” I ordered. His eyes nearly fell out of their sockets as he glanced at Damian's sister. “B-but my Queen, I-I…” “Now!” I cut him off sternly, my voice icy. He mumbled apologies to the woman and swiftly closed the door. A few seconds later, I felt the carriage move as we continued our journey. It wasn't until a few minutes later that I could breathe deeply but it didn't stop my heart from beating wildly. I knew I'd get some degree of hate but I didn't expect it to be so intense. But none of it matters right now because I'm here to stay. Whether they wanted me to or not.
