My name is Eli. I live in a very small town which we will not name, fixed in-between two mountains. The town is very depressing but still has a fairly high population for around these parts. We have two taverns and a few diners. Everyone has a place here. Except me, I am a complete outcast. I have no friends, I have never had a boyfriend, nor do I really want one. I am a curvy women, which standing at a pitiful 5'1 doesn't really help. My favorite color is black. I wear nothing but black. You'd think I was a funeral director just from looking at my wardrobe. Which in a town where it rains all the time and is mostly gray and cloudy, black is a very acceptable color to wear. I have always been different from my peers. With dark hair, blue eyes, and very pale skin, it's hard to not be an outcast. The other girls in my town strive to look like models from California. Tanning every chance they can and bleaching their hair to look more exotic. Not me. I never really saw the point. And of course all of them get even more dollied up when He comes into town. He is River Trey. He basically runs this town. He owns everything and practically everyone of any importance. River is part of a clan of misfits turned mafia. He is like a king to them. He comes into town along with his pack twice a week, to get girls, boose, and money. Afterwards they disappear back into the forest where their clubhouse sits. I never understood why they put the damn thing in the middle of nowhere, and why the girls always come back different. River Trey is a mystery. The whole situation is just f**ked up. No one has the audacity to ask the questions everyone in the town is dying to know. I would, however River Trey avoids me. Maybe he isn't attracted to me, or maybe I am just as scary as he is. But sometimes I do catch him staring at me. With dark eyes and messy hair from the motorcycle ride down the mountain, it's hard to resist his glances. I just want to make it out of this town as soon as I make enough money to move. I work a local book store which doesn't pay much but its enough to put back in my moving fund. I want to avoid all drama. Nothing is going to ruin my plans for a better life elsewhere. Or at least that's what I thought, until this morning....
I was putting away books at the bookstore, when I heard the bell on the door ring. I shouted "be right there!" And I felt his gaze before I looked up from the pile of books I was organizing, He was there. River Trey. I jumped due to the way he appeared so quickly at the end of the hallway. He watched me as I staggered to my feet. River is beautiful. Black hair and dark green eyes, muscular and abnormally tall. Just beautiful. " I need to talk to you." He said. I huffed " How can I help you?" He stared for a moment before saying "what are you doing working here?" Realizing that this is the first time we had ever spoken to one another, I stated "Ummm making money, and why are you asking me this? I don't know you?!" He snickered under his breath " I know you." " I know that you hide behind the door of this book store, and those baggy clothes so that no one in their right mind would approach you." I glared at him. "what can I do for you Mr. Trey?" He breathed in deeply as he creeped closer to me. " I have a proposition for you." I became very nervous at the fact that I could practically smell the mix of cologne and engine exhaust, which smelled amazing. I breathed, "what?" River leaned forward and put his hand against a bookshelf pinning me between them, He said " I am curious about you, I have been watching you for quite some time. And I know that you have noticed. I have more questions that would be best suited discussed over drinks." I scoffed as I tried to sweep his arm away from me, unsuccessfully. " I know nothing about you. You have never spoken to me before. Why would I ever have drinks with you?"
He laughed out loud, sarcastically. He said "you think it was a request? You are mistaken Princess!" "Princess?!" I screamed " You are a A**hole." " Get out!" He giggled " Baby girl, I own this store." "You work for me."as he reached out to touch my cheek. I ducked under his arm and grabbed my belongings. "Fine." I said " I will leave." I turned to leave and like magic, he was in front of the door. I jumped completely frightened "How did you??..." River smiled at me as he bit his lip. He strode towards me, pushing me against the front desk and said " Tonight, at Roy's Tavern. Be there." You will not enjoy it if I have to come find you." He bent down and smelled my hair, he whispered" I always loved your smell." as he lightly brushed his fingers across my thighs. I gasped feeling light headed. River left quickly. I gathered myself enough to run to the front door watching him walk across the parking lot then through the street to his bike. He and his minions laughed and snickered as he mounted his motorcycle. I was furious, turned on, and scared at the same time. This has to be a prank, some kind of sick joke. If He wants to play this game with me, I will play, but he will be the joke. "I hate you River Trey. I really do." I said to myself. River turned and glared at me from across the street. Those green eyes reaching far into a soul. I heard his voice in my head say "I know baby." "I know." I sank to the floor not knowing what just happened. His eyes never leaving mine, he smiled and rode away.
