Later that night after Savannah had gone to bed Tyler quietly exited the house and headed for the shed. Once there he stripped down and shifted into his wolf, Killian. His wolf was massive in size and was solid black with golden brown eyes. The only spot that was a different color on his fur was the white patch on his chest that looked like a crescent moon. He was the only wolf that he knew of with such a marking and was told that it was the mark of the moon goddess. It meant that he was a blessed wolf and that made him strong. He was the strongest wolf out of any of the surrounding packs and that easily made him a formidable Alpha. Though he ruled his pack with a gentle but firm hand; he also let them know that any actions that put the rest of the pack in danger would be dealt with swiftly and without mercy.
Once he finished his shift, he slowly poked his head out of the door in the rear of the shed that led right into the forest making sure that no one would see a massive wolf exit the shed. He perked his ears towards the house to listen for any sounds that would indicate that Savannah had awoken and was wandering around the house looking for him. When he did not hear anything, he stepped out of the door and took off into the woods. He had needed to let Killian out for a while now and had been suppressing him for Savannah’s sake, but now that she was comfortable and sleeping, he knew that the time for a run was tonight.
Killian was overly joyed to finally be able to run freely through the woods taking in every scent and sound that surrounded him. A soft snow had started to fall which would make it easier to cover his tracks and keep others from seeing huge wolf tracks. The kind town folk of Polson, Montana did not need to know about werewolves or that he was one of them. “You know you’re going to have to tell Savannah about me soon Tyler.” Killian spoke directly to Tyler inside his mind. “I know I am, but what if she does not take it well? What if she runs away from us?” That upset Killian and he let out a menacing growl that shook the surrounding trees making snow fall from the limbs above him. “She is our mate, she won’t run. If she does then we will just have to bring her back.” He said almost as if he were biting back another growl. Tyler knew that Killian was serious, but he could not see that forcefully making her stay wasn’t the answer. Tyler left Killian to finish his run while he sat back and thought of a way to introduce Savannah to his world.
After several hours Tyler returned to the shed and shifted back into his human form. He had been so consumed with his thoughts that he had not noticed the familiar scent in the air. He stiffened immediately once the smell of coconuts and Tahitian island breeze hit his nose. He looked at the other door that led to the house and there was Savannah. s**t, he had not wanted her to learn about his secret this way. Savannah stood in the door, eyes as wide as saucers. Had she just seen a massive black wolf transform into Tyler? No, she must be dreaming. She reached up and pinched her arm hard to wake her up. When that did not work, she knew she was wide awake. Before she or Tyler could say anything, she fainted.
Tyler saw her eyes roll into the back of her head and closed the gap between them catching her just as her legs gave out. He carried her back to the house and placed her on the sofa hoping like hell that he had not scared his mate away. Killian growled deep inside Tyler because of the state that Savannah was in. Why hadn’t he smelled and listened to make sure she was still asleep? What was she doing out there in the middle of the night? He went to get a damp washcloth to wash her face and try to revive her. He made his way back to the couch and gently wiped her forehead and then her cheeks. After a few moments he saw her eyes begin to flutter.
“Hey, Savannah, it’s ok. You’re in the living room on the couch.” Tyler softly spoke to her trying to keep her at ease as she opened her eyes. The emerald green orbs that normally shone brightly were immediately engulfed in fear as she came to. Savannah abruptly sat up causing herself to become lightheaded and the room to spin. Tyler steadied her with his hands on her shoulders and gently helped her sit back on the cushions. She flinched at his touch even though he had no intent to hurt her. He would never hurt her, and his heart broke knowing that she had seen him shift without him having the chance to explain to her what he was.
Savannah looked at Tyler and could see the hurt in his eyes from her flinching when he touched her. She could not explain why but it felt wrong to be afraid of him. Even when she had just seen him turn into a man from a giant wolf. She could not explain why but even though she was scared she still felt the need to let him explain what had happened. Savannah looked at Tyler and tried to calm herself before she asked, “What are you?” He could see that she really wanted to know and that she had visibly calmed herself.
He took a deep breath before telling her all about who and what he was and about the Moon Goddess. He told her about how the Moon Goddess chose a perfect mate for each werewolf and how she was his mate and that she was the only one he was ever meant to be with. Savannah sat there and listened to everything Tyler was telling her trying to comprehend everything he had just told her. She did not believe that werewolves were anything more than something of fiction. Now she had come face to face with one and he was nothing like what she had read about or seen in movies. He was able to shift into his wolf whenever he wanted and did not need a full moon to do so. He also did not look like the werewolves that the movies had so wrongly portrayed. His wolf looked like any other wolf she had ever seen, only much bigger.
When Tyler had finished explaining everything, he looked at Savannah to see if she was still scared and to see if she gave any indication that she was going to bolt out the door. When she did not make a move to run, he relaxed and let her soak it all in. Time seemed to stand still while he waited for Savannah to say something, anything. When she finally spoke, he released the breath he did not even know he had been holding in. “So, what you are telling me is that you were born as a werewolf and that you are the leader of a pack here in Montana and that no humans know of the existence of werewolves unless the Moon Goddess chooses to mate a wolf with a human?” When she put it like that it did seem a bit easier to swallow than the two hours he had spent telling her in depth about his life.
Savannah seemed to take what he had told her better than he anticipated. She had not gotten up and ran from the house screaming, she had not called him a lunatic and called the police to have him locked up in an asylum. She smiled at him and asked him questions. She was intrigued and wanted to know more. Her next question is what stunned him more than anything so far since he had met her. “When are you going to introduce me to your pack and the rest of your family?” When she asked her eyes lit up and she looked excited. Her fear had dissipated after he had answered all her questions. He only had to answer the last one she had just asked. Was he ready to share her with the pack and his family just yet?
He shifted in his seat to look at her better and finally spoke. “Well, I am here for vacation and planned to be here for a few more weeks. So, if you still want to come back with me then I will take you. Just know that if you decide to stay with me and be my Luna that I will protect you from all harm and from anyone who you do not want around. Your family that you are running from will not be welcomed onto pack land. Your brothers should you choose to tell them about me will be welcomed. The pack will respect any decision you make on what to tell your brothers about us and our life.” Savannah was stunned by his answer and she could not hide the smile that took over her face. Without thinking she swung her arms around his neck pulling him into a tight hug. Tyler laughed at her enthusiasm when he answered her question. They spent the rest of the night talking and laughing just getting to know each other. They watched the sun rise while they sipped on coffee in the kitchen. Together they made breakfast and continued talking well into the morning.
