FINALLY GOING HOME Mathilda’s POV After my tears finally subside, I realize I’ve been sobbing for far longer than I thought. My chest feels tight and sore, like I’ve been running nonstop, and my eyes burn from crying too much. When I finally lift my head, I notice that my surroundings have grown quieter. The flashing lights are gon, the stretchers are gone and most of the crowd has dispersed. It’s just us now—me, Drake, a few investigators, and what I assume are forensic officers moving in and out of the building with gloves and evidence bags. Outside, the street has been cleared. Including me, there were fifteen victims taken from the house. Eight girls. Seven boys, Fifteen lives interrupted, fifteen people who will never be the same again and I swallow hard, my throat tightening
