Chance encounter

It had been a busy day. A part time work assignment at a cafe had been arranged after a hasty interview. Would build up the language knowledge and earn a small surplus to the savings she had bought over. These studies weren’t quite a vacation she mused lips pressed tight.  Class was one of those getting to know you sessions any shy kid like Gemma dreaded. On with the real work next. That afternoon after the success of a work placement a few of the students joined for a drink in the sun. A local bar with some stools outside and some bread and oils on offer. Everyone was super friendly and eager to get off to a good start on the course. Trudy and another student Gemma just about recognized were hitting it off famously, her perched on his lap, stroking his leg.  Thinking it time to leave as the sun was fading fast, Gemma made her well used excuses- if they were kept in a book to refer to this would be decidedly dog eared from over use. Straightening her skirt as she left she headed to the dorms.  Passing beautifully manicured trees along the way, she dodged in and out of crowds and politely smiled at onlookers varied in their gaze either impressed or unimpressed by the short length of her skirt. She knew it was a risk. Her only risky outfit she packed actually her parents and Todd would never have approved but she was living with some fashion forward women whom wore much the same.  Home entrance in view she dashed for the door as shelter for it had started to rain. Suddenly she heard her name, her stomach flipping at the voice, was that...?  Lorenz. There he was again equally as handsome as the late afternoon before. Her stomach flips working overtime now he made his way closer. “I wasn’t accounting for rain” he said a serious stare. Desperate to go inside myself to spare her hair going flat and shirt going transparent by the minute with large drops rudely landing she gestured him into the hallway. With its stark lighting and lack of decoration it wasn’t the most welcoming of environments. But She wondered why he was here, had he happened to pass again. “I would like to give you my number Gemma. The way he said he name, like a song, his eyes kept dropping to my legs and my chest I could tell. To wear a dark coloured bra under a white shirt seemed brazen in this lighting, after the heavy rain. “A stranger in Milan needs a friend” he tried to smile at this but his tone and eyes were still intense. Gemma accepted but wasn’t ready to offer her number. By cruel timing her phone rang, a stored picture of Todd flashed up. They both looked at the phone and it seemed to wake them up from one another’s spell. Lorenz made his exit not before giving Gemma his number. Reserved goodbyes were made and Gemma sauntered into her room as if on a cloud. His presence made her dizzy, if not the couple of glasses of white wine at the bar.  Studying some more and picking up some basics for the local shop, after polishing off some toast. A pretty rubbish dinner one must admit, Gemma made her way to bed again thinking of Lorenz. On impulse she drafted a quick message in Italian a quick “hello this is my number” slipping into a nightgown she delved into bed checking her phone. It had been minutes. But he had replied.  “Hope you dried off. Had you been out? you were looking dressed up”  Tummy flipping again Gemmas hand moved to it to soothe it. Her hand found itself lower, she felt naughty, new feelings of attraction and wanting to be stroked by her new friend.  How should she reply? She wondered. Playing it cool she replied matter of factly. If he had meant to flirt she was going to tease by not reciprocating but her body very much wanted to reciprocate.  “Yes soon dried off, don’t worry. Some rain we had there. Was out for a couple of drinks” “Had I known you were tipsy...anyway you were looking hot I should add” was his translated response.  Gemma didn’t know how to reply now and her hand was working overtime. Meaning to momentarily put the phone down so her other hand could grab her ample breast the message was left unanswered as she was embarrassingly disturbed. A male room mate wondered in and quickly realized what was going on. Quickly turning he apologies that he was after the toilets. Mortified Gemma quickly covered herself. She wouldn’t live this down she thought and thoughts of leaving Milan were top of her list now.
