(Mason’s POV)
I fell back by about a hundred yards, give or take a few. Everything was quiet, like normal quiet, for all of about five minutes. Then it got eerily quiet and I knew I was royally f*cked.
I found myself a nice little area to wait for the onslaught. “M to Bravo, I got company comin’. Donno how many.” I whispered. I didn’t really know their lingo, but I figured I should let them know something.
“Roger that, M. Sending back up.” Jax responded and I felt some relief. They had a good ten-minute cushion but they were slow moving due to the injured. I didn’t want them to have to slow down any more than they already were, so I said, “I got this. You just get those wounded back safely.”
Did I hope he insisted otherwise? Sure. But what kind of king would I be if I didn’t protect
