(Mason’s POV)
I was a bit dumbstruck by the way Jessie spoke to Nick. I know she’s upset at having lost the Matthews again, but she never even gave him a chance to speak, which is unlike her. Especially where Nick's concerned.
After that tense exchange between them, I talked her into lying down for a little while. I wanted to go talk to dad and make sure he was alright, but Jessie wouldn’t lie down unless I stayed with her.
I have to admit, I liked that. A lot. But now she’s sleeping so I’ve gently extricated myself from her grasp and am now heading to see my dad. Just as I suspected, he was in the command center with Nick, Jessie’s parents, and the others. “So what’s goin’ on?” I asked as I closed the door behind me.
