Anna
“ The dining hall is that way.” A deep voice rang from behind and I turned my head, startled by the sudden intrusion.
Behind me stood a man. Tall and huge, with a face close to perfection.
His long black hair fell on his face and his eyes ran over me, making me feel watched and exposed.
“ What is going on here?” A muscular stern voice dropped from the side and I spun around.
My eyes met with a mysterious blue eyes. Suddenly my stomach twisted weirdly just as I thought of him.
Lucien Grey!
My mate and the infamous alpha everyone was scared of.
The alpha that was believed to have the devil's genes in him.
” I was just telling the guest where the dining hall is.” The first man said and the second man shifted his gaze to me as if he was just noticing me.
His calm demeanor made me feel less tense.
” She is not a guest.” His voice was calm and scolding.” I'm Wade. Lucien's brother, ” he added. His tone soft and a bit gentle.
I didn't know Lucien had a brother.
No one said anything like that to me and besides the rumors never said anything aside from his cruelty.
” I hope you slept well last night?” I swallowed before nodding my head.
That was unexpected.
The hospitality, right?
“ Breakfast is served.” Wade said, pointing his face to the door on the side.
I nodded and was about to move when he spoke again.
“ You are barefoot.” His gaze dropped to my feet and I bit my bottom lip.
“ Wait, I will get you slippers.” Wade offered and before I could decline he started towards the stairs.
” Hope she lasts longer.” the first man whispered to Wade.
It wasn't entirely a whisper though. I rubbed my feet against each other, feeling the cold floor under my feet.
Wade returned shortly after with a pink fluffy slippers.
How did he know that I like pink?
I slipped my feet into them and followed him to the empty dining table.
I wondered where Alpha Lucien was. Could it be that he was indeed the devil that they say he was and was locked up in some underground room to protect the pack members?
“ Lucien is on a business trip.” Wade said as if reading my mind.
I felt relieved when I heard my devil mate was on a business trip.
Maybe I could live a bit longer before he returned and snapped my head off.
The thought of dying made my heart go cold and numb.
“ I'm Inn.” The first man suddenly said and I looked up at him as I took my seat at the huge table filled with a variety of breakfast.
” Lucien's younger brother.” He added with a smug smile and I turned my gaze to Wade who was seated two chairs from me as if confirming with him.
Another brother?
Wait, he has two brothers?
” I get that you are scared but don't worry, I don't bite.” Inn teased but I couldn't bring myself to look any different from what I look like now.
Scared? Yes.
“ You will survive him if you get to survive me.” He said, his gaze pointed at me.
“ I know what you are thinking.” Inn said as he took a huge bite of toasted bread.
The room grew silent and awkward with Inn staring at me like a predator.
What did he mean by surviving him?
“ You know he has already killed four mates.”
My body tensed and my eyes widened. I knew but hearing it from another person made it more terrifying.
I knew who Lucien was but I couldn't help the fear.
“ Your food is getting cold. Don't pay attention to Inn.” Wade's voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I swallowed, nothing in my mouth actually.
I knew this before I decided to be his mate so why was I terrified all of a sudden?
“ You haven't told us anything about yourself.” Inn pointed out, forcing me to look up. My name is Anastasia, Ann for short and I'm eighteen years old.” I swallowed. There was nothing much to tell.
I was just a girl who lost her father and her mother's love.
What was the point of wanting to survive when I had nothing or no one to love me?
” Anastasia.” Inn whispered as if testing my name on his tongue.
“ So why did you agree to this marriage?” Inn suddenly asked and I froze.
” Do you have a death wish or are you another female sold out for power?” Inn sounded as if I had reached my final destination. Something I already knew, but it still felt new and terrifying.
My chest tightened, tears pooled up in my eyes, not because I was about to die and certainly not because I regret anything.
But because I was going to die without ever getting to feel what real love was.
My mother's.
“ I am sure you have heard everything you need to know about Lucien.” Inn continued. His voice was cruelly harsh and clear.
My hand squeezed around the fork in my hand.
I was practically shaking in my seat.
“ Enough Inn.” Wade cut him off.
“ What? Are you feeling sorry for her or can't stand hearing your brother being insulted?” Inn teased and Wade chuckled.
“ You are scaring the poor girl.” Wade said softly.
“ They all come scared.” He got up from his seat, grabbing an apple.
He gave me one last look before turning away.
“What about my brothers?”
“She had breakfast with them. But she didn’t
I stood and headed for the door.
I bet she was loving the attention.
Just like the rest.
My brothers.
Wade, the gentle one. Inn, the charming one.
And me?
Nothing but a devil with blood on his hands.
As for Wade being gentle… only I knew what lived beneath that gentleness.
“Be gentle with her, Alpha,” Vincent said.
I stopped. My hand tightened around the doorknob.
Curious.
Who was this girl that made Vincent the most ruthless creature I knew aside from myself speak like that?
I pulled the door open and stepped out.
The moment I pushed her door open, her scent hit me.
Sweet vanilla.
It crawled into my lungs and set my blood on fire.
The hair on the back of my neck stood.
Inside me, my beast surged.
Mate.
He growled!
