Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, Jacob was about to graduate.
Yet, I still hadn't had the chance to formally get to know him.
At the graduation ceremony, Jacob, as an outstanding graduate, took the stage to deliver his speech. His poised stature exuded confidence and determination. His slightly curly brown hair was neatly groomed, emanating a mature yet vibrant charm. His deep blue eyes seemed to reveal the resilience and wisdom within his heart.
He strode towards the podium, commanding an aura that seemed to envelop the entire auditorium.
Standing at the lectern, he gazed upon the assembled classmates and parents, his gaze firm yet warm, radiating hope and confidence for the future. His voice was clear and commanding, brimming with hope and conviction.
His speech was concise yet profound, conveying deep insights. He shared his four-year university journey, expressing gratitude to the teachers for their guidance and appreciating the companionship of his fellow students. He spoke of personal experiences, encouraging everyone to pursue their dreams and persist through adversity.
His words were like a refreshing breeze, stirring the hearts of everyone present. His speech not only summarized the past but also inspired and enlightened about the future path ahead.
As he concluded his speech, the hall erupted in sustained applause. Eyes filled with respect and admiration as the audience rose to their feet, applauding him. In that moment, Jacob became the focal point of respect and admiration at the graduation ceremony, his speech serving as a source of inspiration and encouragement for each graduating student.
When Jacob stepped down from the podium, his friends rushed towards him, presenting him with bouquets of flowers amidst warm applause and cheers. Jacob felt pleasantly surprised and touched as he accepted the bouquets from his friends, each carrying unique blessings and sentiments. Some bouquets were vibrant roses, some were fresh tulips, and others were magnificent lilies, each representing the well wishes of his friends.
Subsequently, Jacob's friends handed him gifts, beautifully wrapped and carefully selected with love. Some were ornately decorated photo albums filled with pictures and cherished memories from their time at university; some were exquisite handicrafts symbolizing their heartfelt blessings and friendship; and others were specially customized mementos, ensuring Jacob would always remember this special time.
Next, Jacob's friends led him to a beautiful corner of the campus, a place where they often gathered and chatted. Everyone lined up, wearing smiles and striking various playful, serious, or affectionate poses, capturing precious graduation photos with Jacob. As the camera's shutter clicked, memories of this special moment were immortalized.
He stood surrounded by a group of familiar faces, laughter and joy filling the air.
Debbie pulled me towards him, and I couldn't help but feel glad that I had put in a bit of effort to dress up for the occasion.
But to be honest, we didn't make friends with him. So how were we going to take a picture with him?
So I chose a spot that wasn't too far, just enough to clearly see his face, and I hesitated before asking Debbie to help me take a picture with him.
Standing there, I felt a strange mix of nervousness and anticipation. Looking at the familiar faces around him, my emotions were complex. I wanted to get closer to him, yet I felt I wasn't the type to easily blend into his circle.
As the camera captured that moment, I felt a bit awkward, unsure of how to pose. In the corner of my eye, I saw him effortlessly laughing and chatting with his friends. My emotions were conflicted—I wished to be a part of their camaraderie but also felt I shouldn't intrude on their joyful time.
In the photo, he and I were together. Perhaps, for him, it was just an ordinary graduation picture. But for me, it held much more. It was the only time I shared a frame with him in a photo. At that moment, I silently hoped this instant would leave behind beautiful memories.
Jacob's absence left a palpable void that seemed impossible to ignore. Each day, as I navigated through classes and library routines, that faint layer of sadness seemed to cast a shadow over everything. It was as though life had lost a vibrant hue, and the daily tasks only accentuated the missing piece, making it glaringly apparent.
The realization slowly dawned on me that this vacancy stemmed from the hidden feelings I harbored for Jacob. His departure became a constant reminder of an emptiness I hadn't realized existed before.
Recollections of our shared moments during debates, basketball games, and those elective courses flooded my mind. The photo, a precious token capturing us together, became both a cherished possession and a source of profound melancholy. His confident grin and his distinct persona replayed in my thoughts incessantly, each iteration reopening the emotional wound within me.
Despite my efforts to immerse myself in new activities and hobbies, it felt like a temporary distraction, unable to fill the void left by Jacob's absence. The persistent ache of sadness lingered within, refusing to dissipate. Time, perhaps, held the elusive remedy, gradually guiding me to accept this change and eventually begin the healing process, even if the journey ahead seemed dauntingly arduous.
That was an unexpected turning point. Debbie introduced me to the cycling club, which seemed to give me a new direction.
'You know, I think you might like the activities of the cycling club.' Debbie showed an excited expression.
'Cycling club?' I asked doubtfully.
'Yes! They organize various cycling activities to explore the scenery around the city, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. You should try it, maybe it could add some freshness to your life.'
I hesitated slightly, 'I don't know, I'm not very familiar with riding.'
'Don't worry, I'll go with you. Besides, you can borrow our bike and give it a try first.'
Debbie's encouragement made me a little tempted, 'Okay, maybe you can give it a try.'
In this way, thanks to Debbie's encouragement and companionship, I embarked on the journey of joining a cycling club. Not only did this experience help me find a new hobby, but it also made me appreciate her presence in my life even more.
When our cycling club decided to go on an adventure around the city, I was filled with anticipation and some nervousness. This was my first time joining a ride of this magnitude, and even though I had cycled before, I was a little apprehensive about exploring an unknown route with a group of experienced riders.
We gathered early in the morning, and the members of the cycling club were all in high spirits, preparing for our adventure. One member, Andrew, a veteran of the cycling club, kindly guided me on how to adjust the bike and encouraged me not to worry about speed.
We started riding along the suburban roads, and the scenery gradually became more charming. Along the way, we traveled through quiet country roads, past verdant fields and winding creeks. Sometimes, we would stop suddenly to admire a particularly beautiful scenery and take photos, and sometimes there would be a burst of laughter and teasing.
At lunch time, we came to a beautiful lakeside. Everyone brought their favorite food to share with everyone. At this time, I feel like we are already like a big family, sitting around the lake, enjoying the tranquility of nature and each other's company.
On the way back, the sun began to set, and the sky gradually turned golden. Although I was a little tired, my heart was full of satisfaction and joy. This day's experience not only made me feel the joy of cycling, but also allowed me to find a vibrant and warm community in the cycling club.
'How was it? How was your experience with the cycling club?' Debbie asked, her eyes filled with curiosity and anticipation.
'It was fantastic! Completely unexpected—I didn't realize cycling could be so much fun,' I replied with a smile.
'It seems like you really enjoyed it,' Debbie said, beaming.
'Yes, the scenery along the way was stunning, and everyone was so friendly. It felt like being with family,' I expressed.
Debbie smiled slightly, 'It's a great place, always finding resonance and warmth.'
'You're right. Thank you for introducing me to the cycling club. This experience truly changed my perspective on life,' I thanked Debbie sincerely.
'Don't mention it. I knew you needed some freshness after going through some difficulties. Seeing you find happiness makes me happy too,' Debbie said, gently patting my shoulder.
