“Sir, Miss Franca is here to see you” Kathlyn informed pointing out his office door. Adam’s face fell and he shook his head aggressively.
“Tell her I’m not in” He responded and returned to typing.
“But…”
“You heard me, Kathlyn” He gritted out. She nodded and walked out of the office. Franca was sitting at the reception area. She wore a loose jean trouser and a white crop top which she paired with a black leather jacket. She wore a black heeled shoe to compliment the clothes. Kathlyn twisted her fingers nervously as she approached Franca.
She could not comprehend why she was afraid of the lady but she was. Her fear was mixed with anger and hate which she tried to suppress with a smile around the lady. Franca lifted her head and raised her eyebrows in question when she saw Kathlyn approach.
“Is he in?” Franca questioned. She stood up, adjusted her jacket while staring Kathlyn in the eye. Kathlyn’s eyes drifted to the side of her face which had a scar and she got curious. “Excuse me?” Franca snapped her fingers in Kathlyn’s face drawing her back to reality. Kathlyn made to speak but she had no knowledge of what to say. Was she to tell Franca the truth?
“He asked me not to let you in” She said struggling to hide the smile on her face at Franca’s downcast expression. Their relationship was one of her business but the fact that she and Adam already f****d filled her with a certain kind of jealousy for any other female who came around him.
“What the…” Franca breathed. Looking at Kathlyn, she asked; “are you in love with him?” Kathlyn almost lost her footing at the question. She maintained her composure and thought about the answer before shaking her head in the negative. Whatever issue was going on between Franca and Adam, she did not want to get involved.
Her lips upturned and she watched as Franca angrily make her way out of the office. She shrugged and made her way back to her office.
“Kathlyn” Adam called when she walked past his office. She stopped in her tracks, thought for a second what he could possibly want before going into his office. He had stopped working on his computer and he was staring sternly at her. His fingers clenched and unclenched, filling her mind with questions.
“Is there a problem, sir?” She asked drawing out the word “sir.” Adam rolled his eyes and pinched his nostrils.
“Never let Franca into my office again.” She was surprised at the order. Franca was his friend and …
“Did she do something?” She asked c*****g her head to the side. She was not genuinely concerned about the lady in question. She was just concerned about what could have gone sour between the f**k buddies in less than twenty-four hours.
“It is none of your business, Kathlyn” He said dismissively. That stung. She blinked to hide the hurt. She bit on her bottom lip and nodded in understanding. Adam chastised himself for the way he spoke to her and he felt regret when her face was clouded with sadness.
She walked out of his office without another word to him. Adam wanted to stop her. Everything in his head was screaming at him to stop her but he could not. He was afraid of what she would think if he stopped her. He was already greatly troubled by Franca’s actions the previous night.
Despite knowing that he was in love with another, she threw herself at him, offering to give him pleasure. He observed her to understand if she was drunk or if she was intentionally hurting his feelings. He felt heartbroken when he realized that she did it not under the influence of alcohol but of her own volition.
When he came to work this morning, he thought he would be able to concentrate on work but his mind had other plans. Thoughts of the night he shared with Kathlyn stirred in his head, feeling it with memories and making his imagination go wild. Kathlyn did not help matters either with provocative dress she wore to the office. It was a black gown which had an outrageous slit. The slit stopped mid-thigh revealing her long legs and leaving barely nothing to the imagination. She also let her hair down a lot these days.
He wanted to push her against his office desk and hoist that dress up. He wanted to cup her breasts and hear her moan and writhe in pleasure but he had to restrain himself. He acted stupidly once. He had to make the right moves now else he would end up ruining everything.

“Hey, Kathlyn. Will you join me for lunch?” Jess asked peeking her head into Kathlyn’s office. Kathlyn looked up from her work desk and stared at Jess in confusion.
“Umm… I still have something to round off” She lied. Jess flipped her hair to the side and stood up straighter. She opened Kathie’s door wider and made her way in.
“You always say that. You have been working here for three weeks yet you have never come out with anybody to have lunch. Are you afraid of the office staff?”
“There is nothing like that” She denied.
“Then, come with me. Lunch breaks are for eating not working” Jess insisted. Kathlyn wanted to protest further but the look on Jess’ face made her surrender. She shut her computer down and picked up her purse. She adjusted her hair and pointed towards the door so Jess would go first. She cast a furtive glance at Adam as they walked past.
They went to a restaurant across the office. Jess informed Kathlyn that the food was cheap and tasty so she decided to try it for herself. Besides, she still had some money left from the money Jas gave her so she could afford a decent meal. She could not wait for her pay to come so she would settle her landlord and arrears of many things which she had to settle. After spending her first pay on debts, the other pays would be hers.
The reassurance made her push whatever hurt she felt at how she would spend her first pay from this job. They found a seat close to the entrance and settled in it. Jess took off her jacket and placed on the chair handle all the while offering a smile at Kathlyn.
“What would you like to eat so I’ll order?” Jess asked. “Their bacon and lasagna are really nice. Want to try?”
“Okay” Kathlyn responded lightly. She returned Jess’ smile and relaxed in her seat while she went to place the order. Jessica was an easy going person. She focused only on her work and made sure to be sweet to everyone she came across. She had light brown eyes which were almost hazel.
Her small nose and lips complimented her high cheekbones while her short black hair framed her shoulders. She was slim and had a long neck which carried her head perfectly. She also had a deep English accent which flowed freely out of her mouth when she spoke. Jess walked around with grace and a smile always on her small lips. It endeared people to her. Kathlyn also noticed that she did not mix herself in office gossip. That was another of the reasons she felt comfortable coming out with her.
“The order will be here in five” Jess said pulling her chair. She sucked in a breath of air and ran a hand through her hair. “So, Kathlyn, why don’t you like going out to lunch with anybody at the office? I’ve been watching you.”
“I just like my own space” Kathie responded quickly.
“I know. It just feels like you are avoiding everyone but the boss at the office. I understand that people at the office gossip a lot but you have to socialize” Jess suggested. Kathlyn bit her lower lip gently and pretended to be thinking about what Jess said.
“The gossip is the problem” She said after a few minutes of silence.
“I know. I stay away from everyone at the office because of the same reason too. I asked you out for lunch because we are almost alike. So, why Dreams?”
“I had no other option” Kathlyn said simply. Their drinks and food arrived and she offered a smile at the waiter before bringing out some more to pay.
“No” Jess said stopping her. “I will pay. I brought you out for lunch. My treat.” Her heart melted at the kind gesture. She smiled genuinely at Jess and dropped her purse back on the table.
They talked about themselves as they ate before drifting to random topics. They spent an extra twenty minutes in the restaurant before making their way back to the office. Kathlyn felt lighter after their small sit out. It was one of those things she did not know how much she badly needed but she did.
