Informing Adam

1590 Words
“What are you doing here?” Kathlyn asked. She descended the last flight of stairs and stopped right in front of Franca. She felt a wave of possessiveness and anger wash over her as she got closer to the lady. “Kathlyn…” She raised her palm cutting Adam short. “What are you doing here, Franca?” She snarled. “I came to see Adam. Besides, I didn’t know you were here” Franca said frightfully. She took two steps back causing Adam to smile. The frustrated expression he wore was slowly being replaced by an amused one. “If I remember correctly, Adam asked you to stay the hell away from him. Need I remind you?” Kathlyn hissed. Her tone came out scary and authoritative but she did not give a hoot. She was surprised at her attitude but she decided to focus on teaching Franca a lesson than dwelling on how she felt. “Gosh! Fine, I’ll leave” Franca said. She walked to the couch where her bag was, picked it up and scurried out of the house like a mouse who was caught trying to steal food from a man’s pot. Kathlyn glared at her till she was out of the door before blinking. Her shoulders visibly relaxed and she unclenched her fist. Adam watched her, bemused and stunned and madly in love. He wanted to wrap her in his arms, pepper her face with loving kisses and shove his d**k inside her. Watching her be feisty made his d**k rock hard. He did not know why but he was not complaining. She turned to look at him and he saw the fire in her eyes die down. It was slowly replaced by guilt which presented themselves in tears. “Kathlyn…” He called walking closer to her. He caught her just in time to prevent her from falling to her knees and wrapped his arms around her. “I’m sorry” She hiccupped. He patted her wet hair, hushing her. “You do not have reasons to be” He assured. He made sure her shoulders stopped quaking before releasing her. He wiped the tears away from her face and used his fingers to curve her lips into a smile. “Let’s go eat. We can talk about this over food” He said taking her hand and leading her to the dining table. He pulled out a chair for her and helped her settle in. Kathlyn looked at him gratefully and waited till he arrived with food. He returned minutes later with a bowl of soup containing shrimps and chicken. She rubbed her hands together in excitement and looked up at Adam. “Can I eat? I love chicken.” A surprised Adam nodded his head. He was surprised at how carefree Kathlyn was. He contemplated the reasons but found nothing. Her attitude warmed his heart and made him happy and he really hoped she would keep up with it. He was really exhausted with going back and forth with her. He had so much he wanted to tell her. So much he wanted to do with her. He wanted to express his love and self to her, undiluted and unreserved. He wanted to make her aware of the crazy way his heart beat for. He wanted to tell her how thoughts of her fill his every thought and how he loves her with every cell in his body. He returned with a tray containing coffee making Kathlyn lift her eyebrows in question. “I love coffee” He said with a shrug. She nodded and went back to eating her food. Adam settled in his chair and stared at her before diving into his own food. “Thank you for coming, Kathlyn. I do appreciate” He confessed after taking a few spoons of his food. Kathlyn looked up at him wearing a smile on her face. “You would do the same for me – check up on me, I mean” She clarified. He nodded. “I woke up next to you today…” He trailed, trying to gauge her reaction. His heart soared when she blushed. “How did we get there?” He pushed. She stared at him in surprise and he watched her face fall slowly filling him with unreserved guilt. Damn! I took this acting thing too far He chided himself, hoping that she won’t hold on to him not having any recollection of the previous night. “It doesn’t matter” He added as a means of damage control. “What matters is that it was the second best morning of my life.” She stared blankly at him, feeling him with dread. “You are just saying, sir” She said dropping her spoon on the table. He felt a stab in his chest. “Adam. Call me Adam, please” He pleaded. She bit the inside of her cheek and nodded. “Adam.” He grinned. The way his name rolls off her tongue makes tingles of pleasure spread across his skin. “What do you suspect caused the fire?” She asked changing the subject. Adam shrugged. “I can’t say.” She saw the sadness in his eyes and for some tiny reason, she felt he was hiding something big from her. Probably afraid that telling her would hurt her. That fleeting thought filled her heart with joy. She hid her smile with her hair and focused her eyes on the meat in front of her. The coffee laid untouched on the table and she knew it was a matter of time before Adam would notice she had not drank any of the cups of coffee he offered her today. The thought made her clasp her hands together and shift uncomfortably on her seat. She rubbed her hand on the back of her neck nervously, fully aware of the subtle look Adam was giving her. “You have not touched your chicken” Adam mentioned bringing her fear to life. She swallowed. What should she do? Risk eating the chicken and retch her guts out in his toilet or tell him she could not because it would make her sick? Either ways, he would insist on taking her to a doctor and that was something she could not risk. How had she missed such a tiny detail? How could she have forgotten that chicken made her feel nauseous? She looked up at Adam and he had a curious stare. She bit her cheeks and adjusted in her seat, again.. “Kathlyn?” “I can’t” She dared. He c****d his head to the side, urging her to continue. “Do you want children?” She suddenly asked surprising him. Taken aback by her question, Adam took a huge gulp of his coffee to calm himself down and cleared his throat. The question unnerved and pleaded him at the same time. Confusing. Kathlyn silently begged him to give a response. She realized that asking something so personal abruptly could set anyone off but she needed answers. If she was going to tell Adam about this, she needed to make sure having children was part of his plans. “I… I do want kids” He said after some minutes of silence. Her eyes closed in relief. Her hand went to her belly and she rubbed it gently. She opened her eyes exposing the relief and excitement she felt. Adam clenched and unclenched his fist in a bid to get his raging thoughts under control. He did not miss the sigh of relief she let out and he tried silencing the million thoughts running through his head. He wanted to scream at Kathlyn to speak. The way she opened and closed her mouth in an attempt to say something did not make him feel better. It worsened the way he felt. He wanted to tug on his hair and run his hand down his face but the word control made him exercise control. Kathlyn’s hand flew to her mouth and her eyes bulged in shock and fear. She struggled to push the bile back down but it was insistent on coming up her throat and if she did nothing fast, she would splay vomit all over Adam’s obviously expensive glass table which she could only afford if she worked with him for five years. “Is there a bathroom downstairs?” She struggled to let out through the bile rising in her throat. She pushed her seat backwards while waiting for a reply from Adam. Sensing the urgency, Adam pushed his seat back and led her through the passage by his left. He opened a door revealing another king sized room. He directed Kathlyn to the bathroom and turned pale when he heard her vomit. He ran into the toilet and helped her hold her hair up while she emptied her tummy into the toilet bowl. She stayed that way for some minutes, retching and struggling for breath. He helped her stand when she was done before leading her out of the bathroom. Kathlyn’s hand flew to her head making her gasp. “Okay. We are going to see a doctor” Adam said. She shook her head stubbornly. “What do you mean by no? You just threw up your meal and you are running a temperature. We are going to see a doctor and that’s final” He said and made to walk away. “I’m pregnant.”
