Jealous

You are afraid of heights” Adam pointed out after a moment of silence. Kathlyn scouted closer to the edge of the seat, away from him. She provided no response to his question but instead chose to look out the window and into the night sky. “For someone who accused me of being rude, you sure know how to be rude.” Her head snapped at him. “Stay away from me.” “You were petrified” He stated incredulously. “I have survived worse” She said. He shook his head and lifted his hands in mock surrender. “All right. I apologize for trying to help.” She rolled her eyes at him. He stood up and settled on the chair opposite hers. She stared at him questioningly but he pretended not to notice. “How did you know my house address?” She asked remembering earlier. “You don’t remember?’ His lips twitched in amusement. “Remember what?” “I took you home that night. You were too drunk to go on your own and your friend was nowhere close. I could not leave you on your own so I dropped you off and made sure you were safe.” Her eyes widened in mortification. She recollected waking up to find out that her clothes had been changed. “Did you change me out of my clothes?” “For someone who openly offered herself to me, you do know how to pretend” He teased. He was enjoying this, more than he would like to admit. He preferred this talking and angry Kathlyn to the quiet one who had been at the office all week. He wanted to keep riling her up if that would get her talking. “I did not offer myself to you” She thundered. Bingo! She was livid. Mischief danced in his eyes and he wanted to push some more. “Yes, you did. I remember you asking me to kiss you.” “I was drunk.” “People say the truth when they are drunk” He said in a bored tone which irked her some more. Kathlyn snapped her mouth shut and silently searched for a comeback. Finding nothing to use against him, she folded her arms across her chest and stared out of the window, sulking. “You know, I still find it hard to believe that you have never kissed anyone before” Adam said. Blood rushed to her cheeks. She began to feel hot and she looked anywhere else but him. Every day, she chastised herself for spilling something like that to him. The thought that he would use that against her for the rest of her life made her cringe. “Not everyone is a w***e” She reiterated. “A w***e? Does kissing make people w****s? That is a new theory.” “Just leave me alone, please” She begged. Hearing her beg like that caused a stir in his trouser. His eyes turned a shade darker and his pupils dilated. He stood up from his seat and sat beside her, close enough for her to feel his hot breath on her neck. Kathlyn shivered when his breath fanned her neck. She shut her eyes and inhaled deeply. She tried to control the rate of her heart beat but she could not. He was too close. He pushed her hair to the side and placed a soft kiss on her neck sending tremors down her spine. She let out a soft moan and her hand quickly flew to her mouth in embarrassment. “Kathlyn” Adam whispered. Goosebumps spread across her body at the intensity of his voice. His voice came out in a whisper and his breath was raspy. It seemed like he was fighting hard to control himself too. Good. “Remember how you begged me to kiss you on the night of your birthday? You will do it again and when you do, I will shove my tongue down your throat and savor your taste.” Before she had the time to reply, he quickly rose up from the seat and disappeared into the bathroom. Kathlyn’s chest rose and fell. Her hands were clammy and her cheeks red from the blood rush. Her hand went to her neck and she touched where Adam kissed. It was light and soft, really tender. It filled her head with ideas. She licked her dry lips and moaned softly. The sound of the bathroom door opening made her open her eyes. She placed her hands on her laps and sucked in a deep breath. Adam went back to his original seat and settled on it. His look of composure embarrassed her further. She could not tell if he was affected by what just happened and the thought was killing her. Why did she not push him away? Why did her defenses fall when he was close? Damn it. This was dangerous – too dangerous for her. She should stay away from him. She had not gotten over the fact that he stood her up the other night. She was trying to be mad at him but if he continued doing things like this, she was not sure how long she would last. He was perfect; too perfect. And what did he mean when he said she would beg? Was that why he was avoiding her? Did he want her to ask before he would do anything to her? Was this because of how she snapped at him the other day? Her head reeled with many questions. She inhaled sharply and expelled the air before deciding to not let Adam and his troubles give her a migraine. They landed in Georgia four hours and thirty minutes later. She hurried out of the air craft, needing to stay as far away from Adam as possible. Her action caused him to stifle a laugh. A car was waiting for them when they arrived. He pointed her towards the car and she got in before he could open the door for her, not like he would have. She adjusted herself properly, making sure that they would not have any body contact when he came in. The drive to the hotel was silent. Adam was doing something on his phone which had his undivided attention while Kathlyn just stared out the window, taking in the beautiful scenery of the streets. The car stopped in front of a hotel after thirty minutes of driving. She knew this because she peered at the timer on the dashboard before and after the drive. She peeped out of the window to see that it was a grand hotel. Not like she expected anything less from him. They alighted from the car and went into the hotel. One of the doormen helped them with their bags and followed closely behind them. They got to the front desk and Adam muttered a greeting to the receptionist causing a flirty grin to spread across the blonde’s lips. The receptionist undressed Adam with her eyes, biting her bottom lip as she stared at him from head to toe, completely ignoring Kathlyn. Was that not supposed to be unprofessional? Kathlyn wanted to smack her across the face but she had no right and doing so would certainly cause a scene. The young lady acted like Kathlyn was not present. She puckered her lips and batted her eyelids too many times in a minute while talking to Adam. It bothered Kathlyn. “There is only one room left, sir” She heard the Barbie doll receptionist say. She looked at Adam and back to the receptionist. “We booked rooms beforehand” Adam said appalled. “You did but before I could check, your secretary ended the call. I called back to inform about the situation but the line was not going through. We have a suite available though. You might decide to use it” She said looking at Adam. “I don’t think…” “We will take it” Kathlyn interrupted. Adam looked at her in surprise but her eyes were fixed on the receptionist. A fake smile was plastered on her face which was returned with a glare from the receptionist. “Are you sure?” Adam whispered worriedly. He was not sure if he would be able to stay away from Kathlyn if they spent three days together in a room. He already said he would not do anything without her consent and he wanted to stick by that. This would be a very risky situation. Her lips parted into a smile. “Certainly.” His shoulders dropped in defeat. He turned back to the receptionist and nodded in agreement. The lady punched some keys for about five minutes, asking their details in between. She handed the room keys over to Adam and rolled her eyes at Kathlyn. Kathlyn felt like sticking out her tongue at the lady but she decided to be the mature person. They were led towards the elevator and they got in. Kathlyn sucked in a deep breath when the consequences of her decision dawned on her. As she thought about it, she wondered what gave her the audacity to do something like this. Since she met Adam, she found herself making impulsive decisions. She could not wait to relay the news to Jas. Her best friend would have a fit. The elevator doors dinged open and they were led to the fourth room on the right. The doorman took their bags into the room after Adam opened it before turning around to leave. Adam gave him a tip in appreciation. “This place is nice” Kathlyn commented looking around the room. She walked over to the king sized bed and plopped down on it. “I did not know you thought so. The way you glared at the receptionist showed something different” He said. She stared at him in shock. She did not know he had seen her. What else did he know? “That was why you agreed to share a room with me, is it not? To get back at her?” “You think too highly of yourself” She snorted, walking over to her suitcase. She opened the bag and stared at the clothes she brought in disappointment. She did not envisage that they would be sharing a room so she did not bring any shorts. She felt shy to ask Adam for one of his because she did not know what he would think. What would she do?
