Internal Battles

Kathlyn paced around the bathroom, deep in thought. She could not go out there in only a T-shirt which stopped mid-thigh. What would Adam think? He already thought she offered herself to him that night. She could not worsen the situation. She bit the inside of her cheeks nervously. She should have brought something else; a short maybe. She made a mental note to always prepare for emergencies when next they traveled. She could not risk a situation like this repeating itself. She blamed Jess for not being careful. If she was attentive and careful enough, she would have found out that there was no empty room. “Kathlyn, I want to have a shower too” Adam called from the other side of the room. Her heart stopped. She looked around in search of something else to wear but found nothing. Resigning to her fate, she made her way out of the bathroom. Adam had his back to her when she got out of the bathroom. He was going through his bag in search of something she had no idea about. She glanced towards the bed and back at him, calculating her moves. If she was quick enough, she could get to the bed and get under the covers before he turned around. With that thought in mind, she started tiptoeing towards the bed. She was close to the bed when Adam turned around. Surprise was written all over his face as he wondered what she was up to. Almost immediately, she turned around and she stood frozen to her spot when her eyes met his. They stayed that way; grey eyes on brown. She was afraid of breaking eye contact. Adam on the other hand was not. His eyes travelled down her body, stopping on her legs and focusing on them. They traveled back up to her body and she was stunned to see that his eyes had gotten a shade darker. She pulled herself together and instinctively wrapped her arms around her body, suddenly feeling self conscious. Adam advanced slowly towards her like a predator that had seen its prey. She bit her cheeks and tried to move her legs but they would not budge. This was one of the issues. “Can you just stay away?” She asked but her voice came out in a whisper. Adam did not hear her or perhaps he pretended not to because he continued walking till he was standing close to her. He stared at her for a few moments when he got close. His chest rose and fell unevenly. She ran her tongue over her bottom lip and his eyes followed her action. He inched closer to her, watching her as she closed her eyes and waited for him. He placed his right hand on her waist and inched in closer. She sucked in her breath, anticipating his lips. Adam pushed her hair out of the way and moved close till his mouth was close to her ear and whispered; “My brief.” Her eyes opened quickly and she stared at him dumbfounded. Using his eyes, he motioned behind her to the bed. She turned around to see his briefs lying on the bed. Her pupils dilated before adjusting to its original size. She felt anger rising up her chest but she did not know why? Was it because she thought he wanted to kiss her and she actually wanted him to or was it because he was playing games with her? Pissed, she pushed him away and walked over to the bed. A small, amused laugh escaped Adam’s lips at the action. He shook his head at her and picked up his briefs. She got into bed and went under the covers. Adam’s laughter echoed in her ear making her chide herself. She never used to be this desperate. She always turned boys down and preferred to not be around any of them. Why then was this happening with Adam? Was it because he had been her crush for a very long time or because of how hot he was? Why could she not resist him? She needed to up her defenses. This could not continue happening. It made her seem – cheap. Adam came out minutes with a towel wrapped around his waist. He tied it so low leaving nothing to the imagination. Her eyes strayed to his waist line and she silently prayed for his towel to fall off. She chided herself when she caught her thoughts. She shut her eyes when Adam’s caught hers and pretended like she was almost sleeping. A smile broke across Adam’s face lighting the entire room. He was enjoying Kathlyn’s games. The way she was trying really hard to restrain herself from coming close to him when that was all she wanted was amusing to watch. He was not someone who usually had self control. Ladies fell over him and he had a variety of them to choose from and he always chose from the best. But, there was something about Kathlyn which kept him hooked. He did not know what it was yet and he wanted to know. She had offered herself up to him and she certainly let her guard down around him. All he had to do was woo her and take advantage of the situation. Yet, he was enjoying teasing and tormenting her. The discovery that she had never kissed anybody because she wanted him to be her first kiss thrilled him and stirred something inside him. Perhaps that was the reason he wanted her to come to him on her own. He did not want to be accused of using her. He was wearing a short now and made his way over to the bed. He scouted closer to Kathlyn and shut his eyes close. He felt her gaze on him but he decided to not open his eyes. Curiosity got the best of him and he opened them to find her studying his face. “I can’t sleep with you watching me like that, you know?” He said. “Well, go sleep on the couch” She snapped. “Why do I have to? I paid for the room.” “Oh, yeah? You are so petty” She hissed and turned the other way. “Do you always look for a reason to pick a fight?” He asked. Tiredness was slowly starting to seep into his body and it was only mid-day. He blamed it on the flight. “I do not look for reasons to pick fights. I just do not like being around you” She confessed, pulling the covers over his body. “Why? Is it because of the effect I have on you?” He probed. Her mouth opened and closed but no words came out. Different emotions traveled through her making her head reel in confusion. She was glad he could not see her because she was certain her cheeks were flushed. Laughter rumbled through his chest when she scoffed and for the first time since she started working for him, she smiled. The bed was empty when she woke up that evening. She touched Adam’s side of the bed to discover that it was cold meaning it had been long since he left the room. The realization made her heart sting. She wondered why he did not wake her up. Did he go for a walk? Was he answering a call? It was getting dark outside. She packed her hair up and tied it in a bun before standing up from the bed. The door was pushed open and she lifted her head to find Adam coming in with a tray of food. She let out a sigh of relief, unconsciously. He had Adidas sports tracks on and a white T-shirt which hugged his arms perfectly. She stared at him as he walked into the room, unable to take her eyes away from him. “Do you like what you see?” Adam asked. She wanted to slap the smug look away from his face but she bit on her tongue instead. “I never pictured you for the kind of guy who brought his own food” She said changing the topic. He dropped the tray of food on the table in the middle of the room and turned to look at her. “You wound me, Kathie. What kind of guy did you picture me as?” “Rude, uncouth, immature” She replied. He shook his head disapprovingly at her. “I am so much better than that, trust me.” He sat down on the couch and watched her. She sat on the bed and played with her T-shirt. For a moment, she had forgotten that she was wearing only a T-shirt and that was because she had briefs on now. “Wait! How did this get on me?” She questioned. She could not remember putting them on. “I helped you with them” He said nonchalantly. Kathlyn’s eyes widened in shock and almost popped out of their sockets at the revelation. “You did what?” “Your shirt was riding up and I suspected you would feel conscious if you woke up and saw that” He explained. Kathlyn shook her head in shock and disapproval. The next two days would certainly be dramatic.
