Chapter Twenty-Five We didn’t have time to reflect, as my phone buzzed. It was Wendell. “Uh, I need to take this. Can I put you on hold?” I realized Logan had disconnected when he was staring at me from the passenger side window, gesturing for me to unlock the door. Rising above the shock, I cast him a “what the heck?” look, releasing the child locks while trying to catch Wendell’s call before it disappeared into the voicemail black hole. “Someone just tried to kill Mr. Edwards,” Wendell growled before I had an opportunity to utter a salutation. Tried, as in they didn’t succeed? I wasn’t sure what to do with that question that bubbled up from who-knows-where.
