Chapter Fourteen

A fist flies in as quick as lightening and crooked smile staggers backwards. I see his expression change and I feel fear for this boy. He doesn't know me. He shouldn't get hit for me. He should run away as far as possible. I run and place myself between them. I turn to face the boy and my eyes water. He's too gorgeous to be dragged into this even if he was a jerk to me earlier. His mom saved me. I can't keep dragging people into my mess of a life. "Go please." "You heard her." Crooked smile growls behind me and the boy before me clenches his jaws. "Please" I beg and start to cry, crooked smile grabs my arm roughly and pulls me to him. "You heard her." He says and kisses my neck. I cringe and the boy before me comes straight and punches him in the face for the second time. I fall to the floor and start to feel dizzy from all the drama. He crouches beside me, "Are you okay?" Before I can answer. He gets kicked in the side and he winces in pain. Hot spit lands on my arm and the beautiful boy crouched in pain before me stands up and resumes punching the pig. "Elvis? What the hell?..." It's mom. She's standing in the doorway in her bathrobe. "Who are you?" I want to talk and explain what's going on but Elvis is fast to do so. "He barged in and started to attack your daughter. I was only trying to protect her." The shock from his lie renders me speechless. Even the boy who saved me looks shocked. "Get out. Get out before I call the cops." "Alright. I'm sorry. I'll go now." He says and turns to nod to me. Then he reaches the door and turns the knob, leaving me with mom and Elvis the pig. I look hatefully at mom and the pig who was now smiling, then I run out into the night and hold the hand of the person who just saved me. "I'm sorry." I apologise and he nods. "What's your name?" He asks again. "Jane." "I'm Noah" "Well, it's been dramatic meeting you." I say and smile at him. The smile is painful because my cheeks still hurt from Elvis's slap. "You want to come home?" "You want me to go back there?" "Nope. I know the dog you're talking about now. The one that made you run into the streets" "Thank you" *** "Well, meeting you was quite dramatic." I say and sigh loudly. He smiles and looks up at me. "Brenda isn't my mom." "What? How did you know that?" "She told me, before she passed away." "She... She's dead?" "Yes." "Was that why you did that?" "I can't defend myself Jane. I can't justify what I did. I hurt you and I've regretted it since that day at the cafeteria." "How did you know I was here? Xander's dad said he called my mom." "My mom is in this hospital too. That's why I'm always here. My doctor is here too. I told you I see shrinks" I just want to sleep and digest all that I've heard. I want to hug him and tell him I don't care about the rest of the story if what happened wasn't what he wished for. But I can't. I... I just can't do it, maybe I'm too curious or maybe it doesn't feel right to just forgive a person I'd been holding a grudge against for two years.
