Chapter Seven

621 Words
I sang all the way to school. The Westlife would be shocked at the way I butchered the lyrics to their song. I'm excited at the prospect of free dinner, mom would have to understand. I get to school really early and head towards the gym, because that was where Xander said he'll stay. His dad was pretty mad about the car before hitting the hay last night and he didn't want the old man to find him around when he woke up so he decided to work out till I find him instead, "This body doesn't come cheap you know" he joked over the phone and I rolled my eyes. "You just rolled your eyes" he said and I agree. "You've been watching me huh?" "Nah. I've known you less than a day so there's not really much to watch. I just know girls" "Oh." was all I managed to say before the conversation shifted on to other issues. So, I was standing at the entrance of the gym, calming myself down so I wouldn't look like I ran all the way here. Then I walk in like it's the most casual thing in the world. "Hey" I wave and find a bench to sit on. Xander turns and stops. His eyes wander down my body and suddenly I'm very conscious, maybe this top wasn't the right choice. God! I should have worn the jeans I got last month and not this faded and ripped one. I cough to bring back his attention and he flushes. I want to make a joke about it and make the situation seem light but my mouth isn't cooperating. The butterflies that didn't come when he was being sweet and showing me the ropes yesterday came in full force. My mantra was the last thing on my mind, even know I'd be used, I'd be using him too. He stands up and takes three bold strides to where I'm standing. Then he leans down and raises my now quivering chin to meet his face. His pupils were dilated and the green was dark. He was about to say something when the door opened and slammed shut immediately. I swear I'd never been this startled. Xander's jaw clenches but his eyes brighten up and he sees who's at the door. He puts his hands on my waist and it feels like it's the most natural thing in the world and turns me to meet the guy at the door and I tense immediately. My face hardens and my eyes water. What's he doing here? Why's he here? "He's my friend. That's why he's here" Xander says, and I realized I just said my thoughts out loud. "Excuse me. I have to go to the restroom" Xander's arms fall back to his sides and I storm out of the gym into the restroom. Why?! Why was he here? Why did he have to be the Noah Xander kept talking about? And why on earth did Kylie like Noah?! I sprinkled water on my face and wipe it. I refuse to let the tears flow because once they start, they won't stop. So, I push my way out of the restroom and Xander's at the door. "What was that? And why wouldn't Noah tell me anything?" "Because there's nothing to tell" I snap and immediately regret snapping at Xander. He's probably confused. "I'm sorry" He says and the first tear drops, followed by another then another and soon, I'm a sobbing mess getting rocked in his arms. "It's okay" No. It's not. Nothing is okay. My dream of a fresh start just got ruined. The Ice King just found me. He said he would and he did.
