Chapter Two

695 Words
"Phew" I whistled. This school is huge. Nah, huge is an understatement. I was here on Saturday with mom and the orientation guy who showed me around and handed me my schedule before Monday since I was resuming late and I was joining in the middle of a session, and at that time, I realized the school was huge. But now, with the school filled up and all, it's... It's simply huge. I find a parking lot and grab my backpack, then hop off and head towards the hallway. I had English for my first period today and I had to get to my locker and arrange my stuff in it. And yup, my mantra was going straight into my locker, to prevent any mishap. I found the empty locker and customized it immediately, then headed towards the room that was supposed to be my class for English period. What in the name of fried and crispy chicken is this? The class is larger than two of my former school's auditorium put together. People were starting to stroll into class and I was as nervous as hell. I know nobody and the reality of that was hitting me afresh. I'm a stranger, I'm odd here. Maybe I should skip school today and come back tomorrow. Mom would totally freak out. "No, she doesn't have to know" my rebellious side said, winking at me with purple horns on her head. Maybe I should go, as soon as I turn, I bump into a brick wall. Wait. Brick walls don't wear vests, neither do they have hands that steady dizzy and clumsy new students. "Hey. Are you okay?" A deep voice boomed and I instantly look up. Good fried chicken! Have I always been this short? Or is this person very tall? And holy fried chicken, is he gorgeous? I was never into bad boys so I don't know why I can't pull my gaze away and keep my jaws together. He had emerald green eyes, and his eyebrows were perfect. God! Is there anything perfect than perfect? There was a ring at the end of his left brow, just above a crescent shaped scar that was barely visible. "Hello?" He waved in front of my face and I feel myself turning red with embarrassment. "Sorry. Sorry." I tear my eyes away as well as my arm which he held to prevent me from tripping. "No qualms. You okay?" He asked "Of course, I was just heading to class" I replied. His eyes narrows and he looks at me like I just dropped from Mars or something. "You're new" he said, it didn't sound like a question. It sounded like a statement, like he knew everyone around here and he was sure I was new here. I nod twice, confirming his suspicion. "I'm Xander" he stretched his hand out and I took it. His hand was cold, mine was always warm. His eyes twinkled as he looked at me. "What's your name?" He asked. "Jane. Jane Preston" I said and smiled. "Well, Jane. Jane Preston. Lemme see your schedule for the day?" He stretched his cold hand out. He had large hands. The other was stuck in his pocket and... Jane! Stop analysing the guy already. I hand my schedule to him and I watch him focus with a little frown between his brows and then break out in a small smile. "Well, unfortunately for you, you're stuck with me till lunch." Did he just say unfortunately? I laugh out loud at his idea at unfortunate. "Well, unfortunate is going through those classes alone. Sorry to disappoint you, but I'd rather call it good luck." He grins playfully and swings his muscled and tanned arm round my back as we walk into class together. I notice people stare at me and it would have been almost uncomfortable if Xander's hand wasn't on my back. Okay, maybe it wasn't me that was getting stared at. It was Xander. Girls were drooling. Literally. One looked like her eyes were about to pop out. It's pure torture being so near and yet so far away from this hunk beside me.
