Chapter Nine

1124 Words
The rest of the day was spent in a haze. I couldn't focus on anything. My mind kept going back to his words, was he really seeing a therapist? Was he depressed? Did I really never listened to his part of the horrendous story? God! I'm so confused. I just kept sniffing and wiping my face with my sleeves. People shot me looks of concern and one girl with red hair inched nearer to me and asked if I was okay. Okay I need her to disappear from where she sat and my prayers for answered, probably because I didn't give her a reply. Then I feel bad about my behavior, it's my crap not hers, she only cared. I was about to say sorry when I noticed she was just staring at my notes weirdly. I looked down to find out I'd written Noah, Therapy, Depression, Explanation over and over and over again. My cheeks light up and I instantly cover my burning cheeks with my hair that was let down this morning in a bid to impress someday. "So you like Noah huh?" Red head asks and I laugh. "No my dear. You can have him..." "Who said I liked him?" She fake gasped and tried but failed to pull off an annoyed expression but failed horribly. Then we laugh again. I think I like her already. "Whatever" I say then continue trying and failing to focus on what the teacher was saying. Then after class, we go together to the next and the one after till I could convince myself I didn't need to speak to Noah again. Suddenly, two strong hands lift me off the ground and I yelp out of surprise only to be thrown over a strong shoulder right in the middle of the school. Oh God! "Xander?" I call when I recognize his scent. Holy fried chicken! Did I just say I know his scent? It's barely been two days and I already know his cologne is the same type as the one I inhaled and loved weeks ago at a shop and scrunched my nose immediately I saw the price. "Put me down." "Promise me you won't run.." God! This boy is nuts. People were starting to stop and watch so I tapped his back thrice and faked surrender. "I promise Xander" Then he puts me down and I realize Zoey the red head was staring with her mouth agape. "Him too?" "Who too?" Her eyes answers her questions and I burst out laughing. "Xander's my friend. I'm sure you know him. I'm the new one here" I feel Xander's body stiffen as I hit his arm and call him my friend. What?! He's my friend and whatever happened or was about to happen this morning, it was never going to happen because I already deleted that incident in my head. "Is the date still on?" He asks, folding his arms over his chest like a spoilt child. "It's not a date. It's dinner." I correct him and loop my left arm through his and my right through Zoey's. She was still staring at me like a zombie and her mouth couldn't form a word. At the carpark, Xander kisses my forehead and goes off to meet Kylie who was resting her gorgeous self on the hood of his car. He stopped to turn and wink while I wave like an i***t. "Ohmygaaaaddd" Zoey finally says. "Oh! I thought you were never going to talk again." I joke and she chuckles. "Xander likes youuu!" She says and claps her hands together like a toddler. "Wow! Big news!" I joke and roll my eyes, "he's my friend" "Friend huh? You go on dates with your friends?" "Dinner" "Why not lunch? Why dinner?" "Because we always have lunch in school? Duurh" "Okay. I give up. But I'll keep watching. Something's up." I wanted to tell her he likes Kylie but I keep quiet and say goodbye. *** Time really goes slowly. It's been two hours since i last checked the time and its still 6:30. Kylie offered to come help me choose my dress but it's not a date. So, I called Xander and asked him what he was wearing. "You'd look beautiful in anything." He had said and I rolled my eyes. "Shush! You can't show up in a tux and I'd be in jeans and a shirt. Where are you taking me?" "Alright. It's nothing big. I'm dressing causally." "What's casually for you?" I asked "God! Just wear anything you like. Anything you're comfortable in." *** And that's the reason I'm dressed in a baggy plaid shirt and ripped jeans with sneakers. And I'm waiting patiently, hoping mom would stay out late tonight. Last night, she was around until I talked about us relocating too often. This morning, she told me she'd be staying out late. I don't know who this man is but I'm sure it won't last. Poor man. The knocks are gentle and low. It stops for a while before continuing again. I pick my purse and sling it over my shoulder then open the door to face a dazzling Xander. His stud was emerald green like his eyes and he wore a black shirt that complimented his tanned skin. The sleeves were rolled up past his elbows and his strong forearms were showing. His jeans was ripped too, and his biker boots was simply mouthwatering. "Hey. You done gawking?" He greets and smirks. I roll my eyes and close the door behind me. "We'd better be back before 10." "You're no fun" he replies and I was about to shoot him a comeback when I see his bike. I open my mouth but words refused to form and come out. Now I understand Zoey. "What in the world is this?" "My baby" he replies and hands me a helmet. "It's gorgeous" I whisper and smile as I take the helmet from him and run my hands over it before putting it on. Rich people actually live in another planet. Five minutes later, I'm holding on to him tightly as he speeds through traffic into the dark night. We're yelling and shouting. We've sang four of Westlife songs so far and we've perfectly butchered Jason Derulo's Marry Me. Now we're laughing and my helmet is resting on his back as his speed increases and we pick up another song to sing. Then he shouts something that's not in the song. Okay Xander. Great butchering skills. Then I hear him again and freeze. "f**k!" "What's it?" "The brakes. The godamned brakes!" My heart jumps in my mouth a and I didn't even get a chance to say my last prayer before everything turns blank.
