Natalia One single exhale. For courage. And then I’m out the door. My new boots pound over the wooden steps of the cabin as I make my way over to the waiting car parked just outside. Cardan leans against the bumper of his black range rover, legs crossed at the ankles as he spins his keys round a finger. He looks up as soon as he hears me, pushing away from the car. “Hey,” I say, stopping as he rounds the front of the car to get the passenger door for me. He only offers a single nod as I move past him, slamming the door closed once I’m seated. Weird.
