Chapter 9

1026 Words
Yep, Alain had a twin brother and they were identical twins at that. During that calamity his brother was traveling along with his uncle, thus escaped calamity. But due some unknown circumstances no matter how much Alain searched for him he was unable to get any information. As if Blaze did not even exist. And now, after 5 years of fruitless search he finally found where his brother was. The family of three packed up and flew to the France the next day. They bought the tickets through the web at a rather high price. Alain was excited. They were separated for almost 8 years. They were like two halves of the whole, unable to live without each other. This thought made Alain sad. It was not just a figurative way of expressing the closeness of the siblings, but rather the irrefutable truth of their kind. The chances that they would give birth to 1 child only were practically zero, as they simply would not be able to survive the feeling of the loneliness. Even if Alain and Blaze were separated, they still felt the existence of each other and knew that they were not left all alone. Probably exactly this fact kept Alain from the thoughts of suicide. The thoughts of giving up. He knew that it was not only him who was going to suffer if he did so, but his brother would have been dragged down as well. His elder brother was a thin thread he was hanging on for all those years. If not for him he would have long ago fallen into the deep abyss. The flight was comfortable. As the trio finally dismantled the plane they were greeted by that very subordinate who managed to find some information about Blaze’s whereabouts. As it turned out Blaze was under the care foster house. A year after their parents death, their uncle died as well. Even though Alain knew that the probability of his uncle's death was extremely high, he still felt immense grief when he heard his subordinate’s confirmation. The said subordinate was a tall robust man, who was a retired detective. The man was famous for his skills but the work he did for years drained his mental health. He caught murderers, serial killers, rapists. He had been witnessing the ugliest parts of the human kind for years and this exhausted him. The man was retired for 5 years already when a little boy knocked onto his door. He was bewildered by the 13 year old doll-like boy's eyes. They were too deep for someone of his age. When the boy asked him to find his lost older brother the man was rather helpless and told him that if he lost a family member he should have informed the police. Alain shook his head and told the detective his story. To say the man was shocked would be understatement. He agreed to help Alain and was searching for the boy for years, but he seemed to not exist. At one moment he even suspected that there was simply no twin at all. That Alain's mind played a cruel trick on him to somehow make him live on. He was already ready to give up when he found his 1st clue. After years of effort he managed to trail the boy till the foster house he was taken into. But the social workers refused to disclose his whereabouts, which was understandable. For some reason neither of siblings had proper identification documents, so he was not even able to proof that he was searching the boy per request of his own twin brother. All he could do was to ask Alain to visit the foster care to proof that Blaze indeed had the twin and that it was exactly him who was searching for the boy. After getting to know the situation Alain told the detective to lead the way. They got into the car and detective Jackson drove to the foster care. In half an hour they were standing before the big four-storeyed building with a huge French board that said “sunflower house”. When they entered the building numerous eyes instantly fixed on them. Jackson lead them all the way to the director's office. The Director was a middle aged lady with black hair mixed with grey. She gave off the feeling of strictness. She looked surprised when she saw Jackson. She frowned and told him that she was not going to give him information about the youth he was searching. It was only then that she paid attention to the 3 men standing behind him, she was stumped when she saw Alain and looked at Jackson with fury filling her eyes. “I told you you had no right to investigate his background, his foster parents emphasized that they did not want anyone coming to their door to see their kid, you were audacious enough to bring him over?!” “Madam, I have not looked for the boy” Jackson replied helplessly. Alain raised an eyebrow when he heard that Blaze’s parents did not wish anyone to know anything about his whereabouts. The feeling of unease settled down in his heart. Something did not feel right and this alarmed him greatly. “Ma'am I'm not Blaze, I'm his younger twin brother Alain, I've been searching for him for 5 years fruitlessly, you can't just send me back, can you?” “I can, and I will do just that, as that's what I have to do if something like this happens, the kin of the adopted kid reappearing and claiming that they wish to reconnect after abandoning them in the time of need, hmpth” The woman's words shook Alain to the core. He was standing there frozen, but soon his mind cleared up and the feeling of hurt and devastation changed into the rage. “Ma'am I have never abandoned him, we were separated by the cruel play of life, you have no idea what has happened, so do me a favour and don't jump into groundless accusations.”
