Chapter 6 - Mr. Nathan Conner

1572 Words
They are both lost in their own thoughts while making love to one another. The rain did not stop until the morning, and the sound of the raindrops falling on the roof conjures up images of their dwindling hopes for one another. Kimberly reached over and grabbed the blanket before shifting to the opposite side of the bed. He, who had not yet fallen asleep, was keeping an eye on her. Then he begins to speak. "Tell me, how many customers do you have every night." He asked the question in all seriousness. "Why?" She also asked in response while remaining completely still. "I just want to know." He said, and she turned around to face him. "Honestly, I need ten or more customers every night, but I can't do it." She responded while keeping her eyes on her hands and holding the blanket tightly. "Some people at the bar encourage me. As long as I do these, I can get used to these. As if it feels like nothing happens every night. But I really can't." She paused for a moment before continuing. "But you have to. Why?" He asks the question once more. "I need a lot of money, as much as I can earn it." She stated sadly while explaining. "So, the only reason you're doing these is to make money?" "Yes, I guess I am." She replied and finally turned her head to look at his face, remembering how unfair her life had been. "Unlike you, who just wasted it!" She thought, a bit mad at him. "Is there any other guy who touched you as I did?" He asked her again as she resumed her silence. "Touch me as you do? Or do you mean having s*x with me as you did?" She asked and felt disgusted but a bit comfortable talking with him. "Well, yes, I'm trying to sound nice, but it seems you want this to be a precise question." He was a bit offended. "What would be the difference between your words and your actions?" She asked with a tone of mild annoyance, raising the volume of her voice unintentionally. She put her hand over her mouth as a sign of shock, and the man went from being surprised to being amazed at the same time. "Fine, just answer my question." He said, which left her perplexed about the situation. She anticipated that he would respond with an angry shout and a demand, but he did neither. She remained silent for a while, confused as to what could possibly be wrong with him. It seems as if he is not the same as the other man she has met in the past. "Kimberly." He called out her name, which only served to further surprise. "How did you know my name?" She cries out in utter bewilderment. "You have not responded to the question I asked." "But___" "Answer me first." He insisted. "Those guys earlier when you saw me." She mumbled. "Anyone else?" "Since this is only my second visit to the pub house, there is currently no one else." She explained. "Why does he care to know?" She asked herself once more. "Is there something that happened?" He asked, feeling a little uneasy about the question, so he shifted his position and got closer. "What?" She questioned before taking a step backward to maintain her distance. "This is embarrassing; what does he want from me?" She thought more. "Answer me. Did they touch you?" His tone became threatening as he repeated the question once again. "Does his mood change? Will he hurt me again?" She was terrified thinking about it. "Answer me, Kimberly! Did they have you too? Did you have s*x with them?" He grabbed both of her arms, increasing her level of fear. "No..." She flinched back in response to the intensity of his tone. "Please don't hurt me, Mr. Please don't." She pleaded. "You came, and I ran, remember." She added. He inhaled deeply before he spoke. "Don't be scared. I won't hurt you." He reassured her and kissed her on the forehead for a longer time. She was bewildered and had an odd sensation despite the fact that it made all of her concerns disappear. She can't help but close her eyes and take at this moment as much as she possibly can. It gives off a sense of calm and security. "I'm glad nothing happened." He gives her a bright smile while looking at her and gently stroking her face. "Nothing." She was shaking her head once more. "Good." "What?" She muttered, perplexed. "Nothing." he smiles once more before returning to his position in bed. "What is wrong with you?" This time she is unable to keep her mouth shut. He questions him bravely and moves closer, which amazes him even more. "Let me remind you, you humiliated me the last time we met. You made me realize how miserable my life is. That I am useless, pathetic, and the most disgraceful person. Remember how you threw your money on my__." She continues. "Enough!" But he interrupts her. He spoke in a louder tone, one that was so close to a shout that it frightened her again like it always did. She is staring at him intently while moving backward and covering her mouth in the same manner as before. It appears that he is dozing off because his eyes are closed, and he has one arm raised above his head. "Kimberly." He calls out her name again, but his voice is more subdued this time. "And you haven't answered me. How did you know my name?" Her tone of voice becomes more delicate. "I'm sorry about the last time." He apologized, despite the fact that his eyes were still closed, and he ignored her question. "I mean, I'm sorry. I am very sorry I was drunk." He continued apologizing, reiterating his previous statement repeatedly. The volume of the voice gradually decreased until it was barely audible, and shortly after that, he dozed off. When Kimberly notices that he is currently in a deep sleep, she moves to the opposite side of the bed. She reclines there, thinking about a variety of things. "The behavior of this man is very peculiar. Why?" She couldn't stop wondering if his apparent seriousness was actually the case. "Why did he all of a sudden start acting friendly toward her and ask for an apology?" She had been thinking about all the issues she couldn't solve when she suddenly fell asleep beside him. When she wakes up in the morning, at approximately five o'clock, she gives him a gentle shake. "What?" He moaned. "I am leaving. Can I have the money?" She spoke with trepidation in her voice. The man slowly rises and barely opens his eyes as he does so. "How much do you require?" He inquired. "Anything you can afford, Mr." She utters softly because she fears that he might revert to his former demonic self at any moment. "I can afford anything." He was dead serious. "What if I told you I need one hundred thousand? Would you give it?" She responded bitterly. "One hundred thousand?" He repeated the question and laughed. "Yeah, I am expecting you will laugh at me. I shouldn't have said it." She sobbed and then turned back at him. "If I give you one hundred thousand dollars, what will you do to prove that it was worth it?" He asked. "What?" Kimberly was taken aback beyond belief when she heard what he said while facing him. "Yes!" He replied calmly. "Are you sure?" She continued to show her lack of belief. The man retrieves his check from the drawer. After signing it, he gave it to her to keep. Kimberly was at a loss for words as she looked at the check for one hundred thousand dollars that she needed to earn. "Nathan Conner, how is it possible for a man as young as you to have this kind of money?" She innocently questioned him. "That's not necessary for you to know, but since I like the idea, you will work for me. I am the son of a wealthy business tycoon." "You are so blessed." She lowered her voice and murmured. "Never mind, now tell me what the deal is." He halted the conversation and asked her. "Since you are in charge here, just tell me what to do, and I'll comply without question." "Are you sure?" "Of course." "Fine, come to me whenever I call you, and do everything I would want you to do!" "Like having s*x?" "What else do you think about it?" He asked with a grin. "Sure." She responded in assent. "Call me later, around eleven in the morning. I'll be waiting for your call." He presented her with his business card. "Do not attempt to deceive me!" He said with a warning. "I won't do that!" She replied by assuring him that she would not violate the agreement. "Great! Just lock the door when you leave. I'm still tired. Get that paper bag and wear it. I don't want to see you with that dress again." He gave the instruction while pointing to the garment he had brought with him the night before. "Thank you, Mr. Nathan Conner!" She uttered the words in a hushed tone. After that, she smiled her biggest smile as she left his flat.
