Chapter Twenty-Nine

I finally stop crying. Feeling less than alive, I rub my eyes. I force myself to stand up and walk back down the hall. The lights are dimmer, the floor is harder and the air is colder. Everything has changed and it seems for the worse. I try to pull myself together, but a sob escapes me. I close my eyes, pushing them together as harshly as possible. "Clarence?" I say, calling down the hall. He walks out of the library, pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose. "Yes dear?" My shoulders drop and my head lowers. "Did they leave?" "Yes dear."
