Gale spotted us quickly and walked over to us clearly pissed off, her steps echoing.
“Gale I can explain…” Rocksyn pleased standing up.
“That you f****d Jarrod, my f*****g BOYFRIEND, at Dexter’s party! What is there to explain? I have f*****g proof. You are a f*****g s**t! b***h!” She stamped her foot.
“Gale hear me out! Jarrod and I didn’t sleep together, we only kissed. I’m so sorry …”
“You f*****g liar! Freddy told me he even heard you scream Jarrod’s name.” Gale yelled holding up her phone to show us the picture Freddy took. I can see why Gale thought the worst.
“You are supposed to be my friend Rocksyn, but you betrayed me! You are such a hypocrite.” She continued.
“Gale please listen, Freddy is lying! I know it was wrong…” Rocksyn pleased.
“Shut the f**k up Rocksyn! Who the f**k do you think you are f*****g other girl’s boyfriends?!” Gale interrupted, and I simply had enough.
“Do you honestly believe Freddy? What do you expect from dating a player like Jarrod? This is what you deserve anyway! You finally feel how Reece felt last year when you f****d his brother. Oh wait, was that a secret?” I inquired sarcastically as Gale went pale.
“That was a long time ago … Besides this isn’t your fight Jane.” She gulped.
“Rocksyn is my best and only true friend, so if you want to get to her, you have to come through me first,” I stated daring Gale to continue.
“I… You… Hmmf!” She huffed as she spun on one heel and walked away.
“Coward!” I called after her and turned around to find Rocksyn sobbing.
“Come,” I stated as I pulled Rocksyn into a hug and pulled her along towards the bathroom.
“Rocksyn I’m so sorry.” Jarrod stuttered as we walked around the corner.
“Jarrod.” Rocksyn sobbed.
“Jarrod.” I hissed. He looked between the two of us and stepped forward to touch Rocksyn.
“Don’t you f*****g dare,” I warned as he backed away. We walked away and he called out, “Rocksyn I don’t love her. I only want you! Please…”
I spun around, let go of Rocksyn and walked towards Jarrod. I slapped him and threatened, “f**k off or else I will personally make your life a living hell.”

“So how was your day?” Frey asked as we sat in the last period waiting for the bell to ring.
“Where were you during first break?” I asked.
“Library why?” She replied.
“My day was fine thanks.” I sarcastically smiled.
“Geez, you woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning,” Frey stated as she walked away.
I rolled my eyes at her. The only person I want to talk to right now is Sebastian but unfortunately, he keeps disappearing. Rocksyn is a train wreck and Taine is just f*****g annoying me.
I really need new friends.
Beep the intercom went off, “Reminder school will be closing early tomorrow due to athletics day, first-team rugby cancelled, and can Jane Randall please see Mr David in his office. That is all thank you.”
Why does the principal want me? I don’t have f*****g time for this s**t.
“Jane please sit.” Mr David smiled as I walked in. At least it seemed like I wasn’t in trouble. “Sorry to keep you behind after school but it seems a concern has presented itself.” He continued sliding a brown envelope over to me.
I looked at him then the envelope puzzled. I carefully opened it and took out the documents inside. It was a missing person case. It read:
On Wednesday, 27 March 1994, Veronica Jepsen woke up around eight to find Sebastian Hemid missing. Veronica was a mother at Craig Apeks Orphanage for boys in Randfontein, Gauteng. Sebastian is an 11-month-old baby boy with green eyes and black hair, he was given up for adoption when he was 6-months old by his birth mothers friend, Samuel Green (17). Witnesses claim to have seen a bright white light coming from the room Sebastian was placed in. There were 3 other children and Veronica present while the k********g took place, tests were taken and returned positive with anaesthesia present. Nothing else was stolen and even the clothes Sebastian was wearing were left behind. No traces of evidence or DNA were found and made it seem Sebastian had vanished into thin air…
What? Is this my Sebastian? I looked back up at Mr David and saw a policewoman standing next to him. I didn’t even hear her enter the office.
“What does this have to do with me?” I casually asked.
“Miss Randall, I am Detective Loise.” She stated while holding out her hand.
“Please call me Jane,” I replied taking her hand.
“The day you died a young teenage boy ran into your room. We identified him as Sebastian Hemid.” She continued.
“What?” I asked shocked as a touched the small scar I had on my right arm.
“He then donated a large sum of money to the Craig Apeks Orphanage in 2015. We then tracked him down to East London where he brought a black 2016 BMW 4-Series with the number plate XSA 952 EC under the details of Alexander Renald who had received a large amount of money from a fake account the previous day.”
“Sebastian gave him money but then used his identity to buy a car?” I asked.
“That is correct. Alexander was unacquainted and it was as if nothing had occurred. We then traced the number plate to you.”
“I don’t even own a car,” I remarked.
“Students have reported the same car with the exact number plate around your apartment and school.”
“Yeah my friend Sebastian visits me daily, and he drops and picks me up from school,” I answered.
“What is your friend’s surname?” Mr David asked.
“I don’t know.” I shrugged.
“Where did you meet this Sebastian?” The Detective inquired writing down on a note pad.
“Am I being interrogated?”
“No. We just would like to find out if your friend might be connected to Sebastian Hemid or could even be him.”
“My friend has gone home to his parents,” I stated.
“When will he be back?”
“He said he wouldn’t see me again.” I lied. Oh, Sebastian you better not be dragging me into your s**t.
“f**k! We just got a lead and now he disappears again?” The Detective exclaimed.
“Loise language please.” Mr David demanded.
“You could search my apartment if you want, maybe find any evidence or clues?” I added.
“Thank you for your time Jane that would really help us.” She smiled relieved.
2 hours later I was still sitting outside waiting for the police to leave. Rocksyn had phoned to ask if everything was ok because she saw the Detective take me home, so I invited her over.
“Any luck?” I asked as the Detective walked over to us.
“Not even a trace of DNA. No evidence to show that Sebastian was even here.” She muttered.
“What about the cameras at school?” Rocksyn inquired.
“They weren’t functioning; Mr David has to still replace them. Sebastian must have perfect timing.” She said rolling her eyes.
“Oh.” Rocksyn and I said together.
“If he returns or you hear anything, give me a call.” She ordered handing me a business card. Then she walked off and they all left.
“Do you think they bugged the place?” Rocksyn whispered as we walked in. I nodded in response and we searched for any small hidden microphones. No luck.
“Thanks for coming Rocksyn.” I smiled and gave her a hug.
“That’s what best friends are for right?” She laughed then whispered, “Chat at school ok?” as I closed the door behind her.
I ran over to my room and took out the brown envelope I had slipped into my bag before we left Mr David’s office. There were so many pages to read about Sebastian’s background and birth parents history, his dad is unknown but his mom had died giving birth to him. Who did he go visit then? He wouldn’t lie to me, right? Maybe he doesn’t even know he was kidn*pped at a young age? So many unanswered questions.
It kept me up at night.

“Any word from Sebastian?” Rocksyn asked as I was busy at my locker.
“No, but I found out that he is actually a twin! It says here that his sister died at birth though.” I stated while showing her the piece of paper.
“Jane this is like the 5th time you have read these papers. I’m starting to worry.” Rocksyn said concerned.
“I just want to figure out this puzzle. It doesn’t make sense.”
“If professionally trained Detectives couldn’t, I doubt you can.”
“I guess your right Rocksyn. It’s been 2 weeks already and Sebastian hasn’t returned. Maybe it’s time I move on.” I shrugged. She gave me an apologetic smile as the bell rang.
“Hey, Jane,” Taine stated as he sat down next to me.
“So now you want to talk to me? Make up your mind Taine.” I rolled my eyes.
He ignores me for the past week and acts as if everything is okay? Sebastian is gone and when I need Taine most, he’s not around.
“I’m sorry Jane. Dammit, I thought you needed space!” He shouted making students look at us.
“I needed you,” I replied looking directly at him.
He moaned and covered his face with his hands, then got up muttering curses and walked away. I don’t need guys in my life, I have Rocksyn right?

“Oh Jane,” Gale called as I walked out the school gates at the end of the day. I turned to face her and sarcastically asked, “Yes Gale.”
“I just thought you might want to know where your boyfriend Sebastian has been for the past week.”
“He’s not my boyfriend.”
“Good so then you won’t care that we’ve been sleeping together.”
“Sure Gale, whatever makes you sleep at night.” I laughed and turned around to walk away.
“Hi Gale did…” Sebastian greeted. I spun around to look at him but Gale pulled him toward her and forcefully kissed him. I didn’t stick around to find out if he kissed her back because I ran away as my eyes started watering. I ran to an empty bench and rested my head on my knees.
Sebastian was with Gale? No, I refuse to believe it. What if he’s been here this whole time and lied to me? Maybe he had to hide from the cops?
“Jane…” I heard a male voice whisper as he placed his hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw Taine looking down at me. I wished he was Sebastian and my eyes started watering again.
“I’m here now, I’m sorry I wasn’t here for you before. I’m so sorry.” He mumbled after he sat down and pulled me onto his lap. I moved closer to him and started crying. He just sat there and comforted me, I felt safe in his arms.
“I’m so sorry.” I smiled embarrassed after I pulled myself together.
“I’m glad that I was here for you.” He smiled as he moved my hair behind my ear.
“Oh my word, I’m such a mess.” I laughed wiping away my tears.
“A beautiful mess.” He added smirking.
“I even made your shirt wet.”
“Let me drive you home.” He shrugged as he stood up with me in his arms.
“Taine! Put me down.” I yelled.
“Nope.” He laughed as he carried me over to his car. He stopped on the way for a few seconds, I tried to look around to see who he was looking at but he held me tightly against him.
“What’s wrong?” I asked trying to escape.
“Nothing just thought I saw a dog.” He smiled as he let me go so I could climb into the car. He closed the door behind me and jumped in the other side.
“Do you want to go to my place or to Buddies?” He asked as he pulled out of the parking.
“But I have my uniform on!” I exclaimed.
“You still look gorgeous, but fine I’ll stop at your place first so you can change ok?”
“Thank you.” I smiled relieved.
“Don’t take your time,” Taine commanded as I jumped out of the car and ran inside. I threw my bag on the couch and walked into my room.
“Seba…” I began as he placed his finger on my lips to prevent me from talking. He removed his finger and reached down to pick a small hidden microphone off my bedside lamp and squashed it between his fingers.
“How did you know that was there?” I asked shocked.
“I’m back.” He whispered. No duh hey Sherlock, I’m not imagining things.
I stepped closer to him and slapped him then walked towards my cupboard. “Ouch what was that for?” He whined.
“Disappearing.” I stated as I removed my gym, “Kissing Gale.” I continued as took off my shirt, “and not telling me your hiding from the cops.” I finished as I stood in front of him with only my underwear on then grabbed a simple grey dress and pulled it over myself.
“Let me explain.” He pleaded as I changed my shoes to a pair of black pumps.
“No Sebastian, I waited 2 weeks for you to return. Not even a phone call or text message, nada. You lied to me and you have so many secrets I don’t know about. Did you even go to your parents?” I snapped as I stopped to look at him before I walked out of the room.
He shook his head no, so I walked out and got back into the car.
“Do you have alcohol at your place?” I requested.
“My dad has some brandy…” He began as I interrupted stating, “Your place it is.”
“Yes ma’am.” Taine laughed as he drove off.
