Prepared for the Worst: Even Water Won’t Stop Me

239 Words
I knew my actions would attract attention. With all the noise and constant stream of workers coming and going, it was impossible not to be noticed by the people lurking in the shadows. So, before the renovations began, I took precautions. I roped off the area in front of my door, putting up caution tape and hanging thick curtains to conceal the activity. Let them suspect all they want—there was nothing they could do to interfere. However, knowing their cunning, I anticipated they might still try to sabotage my preparations. Since I had installed smoke alarms and fire suppression systems, it wasn’t hard to imagine them tampering with these safety measures. What if they triggered the smoke alarm intentionally? The sprinklers would release torrents of water into my apartment. Worse yet, if they blocked the doors and windows from the outside while the water kept pouring in, I could drown in my own so-called safe haven. Don’t laugh at my paranoia—survival requires a touch of madness. To prepare for even this unlikely yet deadly scenario, I bought twenty oxygen tanks and stored them in a secure, hidden corner of my apartment. With these, I could breathe underwater for up to 48 hours if the room truly flooded. Now, as I survey my fortress, you might think I’ve done enough. You might think I’m finally safe. But let me tell you this: I’m far from done.
