Chapter 21-Road Fatigue
The team left for the next city early the following morning.
Maya boarded the bus with her bag and took a seat near the front.
The sky outside was still dark.
Most of the players settled in with headphones or closed eyes.
She kept her notebook closed and her attention on the window.
Alex boarded several minutes later.
He walked past her row without slowing and sat farther back on the opposite side.
The bus pulled out of the lot and joined the thin highway traffic.
The ride was scheduled for four hours.
Maya rested her head against the seat and tried to sleep.
The motion of the bus and the low hum of the engine made it difficult. When she opened her eyes again the sky had lightened to a flat gray.
They arrived at the new hotel in the early afternoo
