THE BIG SHOCK

380 Words
Lia stormed into the party, her anger and hurt simmering just below the surface. Josh had broken up with her just a week ago, and she was still reeling from the shock. She had thought their relationship was solid, but apparently, she was wrong. As she made her way through the crowded room, Lia's eyes scanned the faces, searching for a distraction from her pain. She spotted a group of friends laughing and dancing, and she joined in, letting the music wash over her. The drinks flowed freely, and Lia lost count of how many she'd had. She was determined to forget Josh and the ache in her heart. The room spun around her, and she stumbled, catching herself on a nearby couch. "Lia, slow down!" someone shouted above the music, but she just laughed and took another swig of her drink. As the night wore on, Lia's anger and sadness gave way to a numb, fuzzy feeling. She stumbled out of the party, into the cool night air, and began her walk home. The streets were quiet, and Lia's feet carried her on autopilot. She stumbled up the path to her front door, fumbling for her keys. Finally, she stumbled inside, dropping her bag on the floor. As she entered her living room, Lia blinked, wondering if the drinks were still playing tricks on her. There, in the center of the room, stood a majestic cat. Its fur shimmered like gold in the dim light, and its eyes gleamed like emeralds. Lia's blurry vision focused on the cat's face, and she saw the markings – the crescent moon shape on its forehead, the delicate whiskers. This was Axise's cat, a legendary creature from ancient myths. Lia's mind reeled as she stared at the cat. How did it get here? Was she hallucinating? The cat regarded her calmly, as if waiting for her to come to her senses. Lia's legs gave way, and she collapsed onto her bed, the room spinning around her. The last thing she remembered was the cat's piercing gaze, watching her with an unnerving intensity. As she drifted off into a drunken sleep, Lia wondered if she'd ever make sense of the night's events. The cat's presence lingered in her mind, a mysterious and comforting presence.
