MORNING AFTER

366 Words
Lia woke up to a pounding headache and a dry mouth. She groggily sat up, rubbing her temples. The memories of the previous night came flooding back – the party, the drinks, Josh. She winced, not wanting to think about it. As she looked around her room, she half-expected to see the majestic cat from her dreams – or hallucinations, she corrected herself. But there was no cat. Lia breathed a sigh of relief, attributing the cat's appearance to her drunken state. She shuffled to the kitchen, craving something greasy to soak up the remnants of last night's drinks. As she scrambled some eggs and toasted some bread, Lia's thoughts drifted back to Josh. She pushed the thoughts away, focusing on her breakfast instead. The food helped alleviate her hangover, and Lia began to feel more human. She washed the dishes, trying to shake off the lingering fogginess. Just as she finished, Lia's phone buzzed with a text from her friend, Rachel. "Hey, girl! How's it going? You okay after last night?" Lia hesitated, unsure how much she wanted to share. She typed out a response, "I'm fine. Just a hangover. Talk to you later?" As she put down her phone, Lia noticed something peculiar – a single strand of golden fur on her couch cushion. Her heart skipped a beat. Could it be...? No, she told herself, it's just a stray thread or something. *Chapter 2: The Mysterious Fur* Lia's curiosity got the better of her, and she walked over to the couch to investigate the golden strand. She picked it up, feeling its softness between her fingers. It did look like fur, but that was impossible. She must have picked it up somewhere. As she went about her day, Lia found herself noticing more golden strands – on her clothes, on the floor, even in her hair. She brushed it off as her imagination, but the image of the majestic cat lingered in her mind. Lia tried to distract herself with TV, books, and chores, but her thoughts kept drifting back to the cat. She began to wonder if she'd really seen it or if it was just a product of her drunken imagination.
