Chapter 2

941 Words
I don't know how long we sat there before we explored our surroundings. None of us knew the witch, or where she would have sent us and this place was something out of a fairy tale. "What are we going to do?" I asked no one in particular. When the portal first opened, I don't remember seeing any of those trees. It was like something out of a fairy tale. With lush green trees and flowers blooming everywhere. In the distance, we could hear the rushing sound of a waterfall. My ears perked up at the sound, and my wolf was ready to be set free. "Now what are we supposed to do, sit here like obedient puppies and wait for someone to remember us?" Carlie asked. I know reassurance is what she is looking for, but I just can't give it to her. I don't know why, but right now, I just want to be like everyone else. Sad. "Does it matter? We are here, with no supervision. Let's go see how much trouble we can cause before they come to get us." Lance was always the troublemaker in our group. The worst part, we followed him, blindly. "Nice try, pup. I am Jackie, and this is my daughter Brittany. We are here to keep you out of trouble and to take care of you. Come, let's get a fire going and get you some hot chocolate. I am sure the five of you have had a shock tonight and could use the sugar.." Sighing, we followed them into the cottage. It was still the middle of the night back home, and we were exhausted. While everyone else was comfortable around the fireplace, I paced back and forth. Something wasn't right. The fighting should have been done by now, or at the very least, we should have heard from someone. Pacing back and forth seemed to be the only thing that I could do to keep my mind off of what was going on back in the pack. It had been a while since we were attacked by rogues and I was worried we weren't going to win. "If you keep pacing like that you are going to wear a hole in the floor. Sit down and drink your hot chocolate. We should be hearing from someone soon, I suppose." Resting was not in my nature. My grandparents always told me that it is my alpha blood speaking. Alpha's are restless in times of trouble and need to be proactive. I won't be able to rest until I know that everyone is safe and sound. "Amaya, how about we play Go Fish? That might take your mind off what is going on back home and it will get you to sit down." Lance asked. "Yes. I haven't played a good game in a long while. I will go grab some games that we can play together. It will also help pass the time." Before I could respond, Brittany disappeared. I guess playing a few board games wouldn't be the worst thing. Sometimes I have to remember that I am still a child and there is nothing I can do back home. When Brittany returned, she was accompanied by her twin brother Owen and his friend Percy. They came with several board games and a deck of cards. After setting up some of the games, we broke up into groups so that everyone got to play. I paired up with Percy, Brittany, and Lance for a game of Mario Cart. I have never heard of this game, but I am quickly learning that Wii is the best thing ever. I plan to talk my grandparents into getting me, I wonder how many other games there are? Just as we finished our third game, we heard a loud thunk followed by Saline yelling for help. Saline was covered in blood, but it wasn't hers. She was carrying my grandmother in her arms and, from the looks of it, all the blood on them belonged to her. I immediately dropped the controller and took off running towards her. "Amaya, my love, come here. Your grandfather was attacked from above and did not survive. I will not survive my wounds, either. There is something you should know." "Please, Grandma. Just save your breath. Maybe Jackie can heal you." "No, dear, there is no time, and they need to focus their energy on the fight. You need to understand that raising you these last few years has given us a new purpose, and I am glad your parents gave you to us. However, you should know that Alpha Nathaniel and Luna Chelsea are your parents. I don't know why they refused to raise you, but I am glad they did." "Wait. My parents wanted their other children, but not me. Why? What did I do that was so wrong?" I know she cannot answer my questions, but I couldn't help asking them. "I don't know, sweets. I just don't know. They would never tell us why they didn’t want to raise you. I am so sorry that your parents are selfish. Maybe now, they will explain their actions to you. Lance, I haven't forgotten about you. Your grandfather and I love you just as much as we love Amaya. Never doubt that. We are so proud of you and will watch you grow. Even if you can't see us, we will be watching." As she exhaled her final breath, Lance stood at her right and I at her left. Marlow, Carlie, and Quincy formed a loose circle around us as we cried about our loss.
