Chapter Three : The Wrath

949 Words
Meanwhile, at the Knight Mansion…. The house was quiet, but the tension was thick. Max stood awkwardly by the shelf as Adrian paced. “You’ve got to let this go, Adrian,” Max finally said. She’s just a kid—probably looking for a little fame. A wanna-be. You’re making this bigger than it needs to be.” Adrian stopped. Slowly turned. You're wrong again Max…he said… Max blinked. “Wanna-bes,” Adrian said coldly, “go to social media. They post reels. They dance for attention. That girl... she’s not dancing. She’s not trying. She’s running. She’s hiding. And you know what that means?” Max didn’t answer. “It means she’s smart. Calculated. Not a noise-maker... but a thinker. She’s dangerous.” “You’re overthinking this,” Max muttered. N I'll say this again…do not interfere in this… “I will break her,” Adrian said, eyes dark. She will work for me. She’ll learn who I am. And when I’m done with her, she’ll never open her mouth like that again.” Max was disappointed that his efforts didn't get any results… But what could he do ?.. --- Later that day…. Elena was in the bathroom, gripping the sink, breathing hard. Her face was pale. Her eyes, red. She turned on the tap and splashed water on her face, but nothing worked. Her mind was spinning. She’d rejected every interview. Every podcast. Even her lecturers look at her differently now. She was the girl who humiliated Adrian Knight. And now, it felt like she was being hunted. She didn’t even hear when someone else walked in. “You’re stronger than this,” a soft voice said behind her. Elena turned quickly. A tall, older woman stood there, dressed in a simple suit. Her eyes were kind... but sharp. “I’ve seen that look before,” the woman said. “The look of someone who just poked the lion and doesn’t know how to run.” Elena stared. “Do I know you?” “Professor Ava Grant. I’m in the business law department.” “I... I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause trouble.” “You asked a question. And it shook a giant. That doesn’t make you guilty, Elena. It makes you different. And dangerous.” “Why does everyone keep saying that?” “Because people like you don’t know the power they carry—until someone like Adrian Knight makes them feel it.” Elena looked down. “Just be careful. Men like him don’t forgive. They... destroy.” --- The next morning, Adrian was seated in his private office, coffee untouched. His eyes were on a screen—Elena’s seminar clip playing again. He rewound it. Watched her face. Her posture. Her words. Again. And again. Max entered quietly. Adrian didn’t even look up. “Call Dean Willis. Tell him," We’re starting a legal internship sponsorship program at the university.” Max raised a brow. “You’re... starting a program?” “Yes. And tell him Elena Hart is our top pick. She’ll intern directly under Knight Hotels’ legal team. In fact, no... under me.” “You’re not serious—” “Do it.” Adrian replied angrily… Max sighed, knowing better than to argue. As he was about to leave the office… Think about it, Max; there's something else about this girl, not just a student or a bold nobody … Well If you say so, Max muttered as he left the office… .Adrian leaned back in his chair and whispered. “Let’s see how much of that courage you still have... when you’re working for the man you thought you could humiliate.” Elena didn’t go to class the next day. She couldn’t. Her mind, her body—everything felt too heavy. She lay curled up on her tiny mattress, staring at the ceiling like it held answers. Her scholarship meant the world to her. Her dreams, her mother’s sacrifices, her entire life was woven around that opportunity. And now? All she could think about was how she might have just messed everything up with one public question. Her phone buzzed nonstop. Messages, calls, tags. It was everywhere. The video clip of her speaking boldly at the seminar has gone viral. Blogs were writting about her. Podcasts were analyzing her tone. Hashtags like #VoiceOfThePeople and #ThatLawStudent started trending. “Elena Hart, a final-year student on scholarship, has stirred the billionaire waters. "Is she bold or reckless?” one TV host asked with a smirk as the screen showed her face. Some people praised her: “She said what we’ve all been thinking. Billionaires don’t care about us!” “This girl’s got fire. We need more of her in the legal system.” Others didn’t hold back their disgust: “She should be expelled. That kind of arrogance isn’t bravery.” “She doesn’t know her place. If I were her school, I’d disown her already.” Elena finally received an email from the school administration. Her hands shook as she opened it. Her heart dropped. “We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as one of five outstanding law students to participate in a prestigious legal internship program in collaboration with the Adrian Law Group…” Elena stared at the screen, her eyes wide in disbelief. It continued: This program will offer hands-on experience in the legal world, mentorship, and exposure to real-world challenges. Your acceptance is mandatory, and failure to attend will affect your scholarship status. Her blood ran cold. Elena shut her eyes. The walls of her tiny dorm room suddenly felt too close. Her heart pounded faster than she thought.
