“Did you hear the good news?” her father said with a twinkle in his eye.
“What’s that?”
“Ajmal confessed.”
“Yes, I heard.” Charlie smiled at him. It was good news.
“He confessed to everything,” her father continued, too excited to contain it. “All of the government scams, the lies that got Hammer locked up. He even claimed he had been,” her father used air quotations, “forced to do it, but the evidence was so overwhelming that he did it to save his skin that they decided he would take Hammer’s place in Supermax.”
“I know! It’s incredible!” She walked to the dresser and pulled out clean clothes. “We have to go tell Hammer!”
“Ah-ah,” her father said slowly, waving his finger.
Charlie froze and threw her arms up in exasperation. “Dad, what is going on?”
