AS I look back on it now, the thing that amazed me most about the Big Boat during those next exciting few minutes was the tremendous amount of careful forethought that had gone into every detail of her design and cargo. Rescue and emergency equipment of every sort was right at hand, in easily reached places. Much of it was packed in the sponson wing where it would be- available even if the whole ship’s hull had been damaged. ASTwo more boats were pulled out and inflated to serve as cargo carriers; I wouldn’t have been too surprised if they had pulled out a baby jeep.
