Chapter Nine

Adriana's POV
I follow behind the lady as she walks down the long corridor. We walk past the sitting room and stop in front of a door which I suspect to be his study.
She turns to face me and says" Remember the rules you were given and you'll survive longer" with that she leaves me standing in front of the door.
I knock on the door slightly but there was no reply from the other side of the door. I push the door forward and enter the room. I shut the door behind me and stare at the man sitting behind the table.
" Did you hear a sound signifying that you could enter?" He asks. " I knocked and waited for a reply but since I got none, I remembered that you were the one who sent for me so you should be expecting me " I state blankly.
He heard my knock but decided not to answer and now he's asking if I heard him say enter. It seems like this creatures keep finding ways to irritate me every single time I come in contact with them.
" Be careful how you speak to me darling cause I would not hesitate to break every bone in your body, watch you bleed, heal you then make you go through the pain over again " he threatens.
I know it's hardly a bluff but he's being ridiculous, " You could have just answered when I knocked" I say unconsciously.
I feel harsh wind around me, I try to move but for some reason I'm glued to a spot. I look down to my feet to my surprise there are shadows in the form of hands holding feet down.
Another hand appears on my throat and keeps me in a chokehold. The grip keeps tightening and my air supply is restricted.
I look at him and see him sitting calmly in his chair.
I feel very light headed like I would faint anytime from now. Everything starts spinning then immediately I feel all the hands leave me. I stumble backwards a little and try to regain my balance.
" You see how easy it is for me. I could kill you in a snap. Don't push me human" he warns.
I'm still in shock from what just happened. What the f**k was that. I just stare at him trying to figure out what he just did.
"Listen carefully, The rules are as follows;
1. You serve me and only me. My food will be brought by you and my room will be cleaned by you.
2. Never be late for anything that pertains to me
3. Lose your attitude.
4. You do whatever I ask you to do, whenever I ask you to do it and wherever. You are not given the liberty of having a choice.
Breaking any of these rules would attract grave consequences each one worse than the last" He says with a blank expression.
" Is there anything else" I ask him with no expression on my face. I need to leave this office before I do something stupid. "Leave" he announces.
I really want to smack the smirk off his face but I decide against it. One thing is certain, all these creatures are delusional.
I walk out of the office and shut the door behind me.
Back in my room, I can hear the whispers from the other girls. Some asking what I had done while the others ask what was done to me.
I block them all out and think. 'what the f**k happened in that office ' I ask myself for like the tenth time today. The shadows and the hands seemed to have just appeared around me. His hands were not moving which means that he was most likely controlling them with his mind.
From all the books I've read there are no creatures with such powers.
When the war started, we were given books on supernatural creatures in highschool.
Their study was added to our curriculum. From what I can remember, there are werewolves, vampires and witches. Werewolves were the warriors because of their strength and ability to shape shift. They are highly sexually active creatures. Vampires are bloodsuckers. They get their strength from blood. Witches get their powers directly from a different spiritual realm.
If the rumours we heard before the attack are true then the king is a vampire but this doesn't explain the shadows or the mind play and control.
I'm unsettled and curiosity is definitely going to get the best of me. I'll find out what he is but I also need to come up with an escape plan.
I have a strong feeling that crazy and unexplainable things are going to happen for as long as I'm in this house.
When I finally meet up with the rest of the family, I'm sure we will be able to come up with a solid escape plan.
The clock on the wall rings signifying that its ten o'clock. It's time for house keeping.
The girls that were with me on kitchen duty remain on their beds while the others stand and head out of the room.
The girls on ground duty are still not back. I follow behind the other girls cause it seems like they know where they are going.
We reach a*****e room and pick up our working materials. Miss Hilda assigned all the other girls to different parts of the mansion.
It gets to my turn and she tells me to wait. I wait till she's done allocating rooms and the girls have emptied out of the room.
" I'll show you his room Adriana and because I like you, I'll give you this advice again. Thread carefully child" she says with a worried expression.
I just give her a nod. She leads me to his room on the top floor. As we walk down the hall she states that the floor is private and only the king stays on this floor.
We stop in front of a black and gold door with the same inscription I saw on his throne in my first day here.
" This is where I leave you. Make sure you come back down alive" she says then turns and walks away.
I knock on the door and wait for his reply. Fortunately this time he says something and I open the door.
