EPISODE 29
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
FRIDAY — 9:20 A.M.
Serena walked into her office carrying a cup of coffee.
Maya was already there, looking through several documents.
"You came early."
"I have a lot to finish."
Maya pushed a folder toward her.
"The Zurich team sent this."
Serena opened it.
"Already?"
"They're moving quickly."
Serena looked through the pages.
"We need to review the final proposal before Monday."
Maya nodded.
"Then you'll be going back to Zurich."
"Yes."
Maya watched her for a moment.
"You don't have to keep going if you don't want to."
Serena looked up.
"It's a major contract."
"I know."
"And it's good for the company."
"I know that too."
Serena smiled.
"Then what's the problem?"
Maya didn't answer.
Serena closed the folder.
"Maya."
"I'm just asking."
"I'll be fine."
Maya nodded.
"I hope so."
Serena returned to her work.
ZURICH
Jasper sat in his office with his uncle Adrian.
Adrian placed a document on the desk.
"The board wants your decision by next week."
Jasper read through it.
"I'll have it ready."
Adrian leaned back.
"You've been spending a lot of time on this project."
"It's important."
"I know."
Adrian smiled.
"You're more serious about it than usual."
Jasper looked up.
"Maybe because I actually like the project."
"Or maybe because you like the person you're working with."
Jasper gave him a look.
"Uncle."
Adrian laughed.
"I'm joking."
Jasper shook his head.
"Serena is a business partner."
"I didn't say she wasn't."
Adrian stood.
"Just don't forget to live outside the office."
Jasper smiled.
"I'll try."
After Adrian left, Jasper looked at the project documents.
He knew his uncle had been teasing him.
Still, the conversation stayed in his mind.
That evening, Jasper went home earlier than usual.
Catherine was in the living room.
"You're home early."
"I finished work."
She smiled.
"That's unusual."
Jasper sat down.
"Maybe I'm learning."
Catherine laughed.
"You should."
Richard walked in.
"Jasper."
"Yes?"
"I heard the Geneva project is going well."
"It is."
"Good."
Richard sat across from him.
"Your mother would have been proud."
Jasper smiled faintly.
"Thank you."
For a moment, they talked about the company.
Then Catherine asked casually,
"Is Serena coming back soon?"
Jasper looked at her.
"Monday."
Catherine smiled.
"She's a lovely woman."
Jasper didn't respond.
Catherine noticed.
But she didn't say anything more.
GENEVA
Later that night, Serena sat in her bedroom going through old photographs.
She stopped at one.
Jasper.
She stared at it for a long moment.
Maya walked past the doorway and noticed.
"Serena."
Serena quickly turned the photograph over.
"What?"
Maya looked at her.
"You don't have to hide it from me."
"I'm not hiding anything."
Maya smiled sadly.
"Okay."
Serena placed the photograph back inside the drawer.
"I just remembered something."
"What?"
"Nothing important."
Maya knew better.
But she let it go.
Some memories were better left untouched.
EPISODE 30
ZURICH — MONDAY MORNING
Serena arrived at the Warner Group building shortly before ten.
Jasper was waiting in the conference room.
"Good morning."
"Good morning."
The meeting began.
Daniel presented the final numbers while Serena reviewed the proposal.
Everything went smoothly.
By the end of the meeting, the contract was ready for approval.
Jasper signed first.
He slid the document toward Serena.
She signed beneath his name.
Daniel smiled.
"Congratulations. The first phase is officially complete."
Serena smiled.
"Thank you."
Jasper nodded.
"It's been a good partnership."
"It has."
They shook hands.
Professional.
Simple.
But when Serena turned away, Jasper watched her for a moment.
There was something about her he still couldn't understand.
Something familiar.
Something unfinished.
Later that afternoon, Serena attended a small business reception connected to the project.
She wasn't expecting to stay long.
She spoke with a few investors, answered questions and smiled for several photographs.
A reporter approached her.
"Ms. Vale, one picture?"
Serena hesitated.
Then smiled.
"Sure."
The camera flashed.
She had no idea that one photograph would change everything.
ZURICH — THAT EVENING
Vivian sat at home scrolling through her phone.
She stopped when she saw an article about the Geneva project.
She wasn't interested in the business.
Until she saw the photograph.
Her fingers froze.
She stared at the screen.
The woman in the photograph was smiling.
Older.
Different.
But unmistakable.
Vivian's face slowly lost its color.
"No..."
She zoomed in.
Serena.
Alive.
Vivian stared at the photograph for several seconds.
Her breathing became uneven.
She dropped the phone onto the table.
Then picked it up again.
She looked at the name beneath the photograph.
SERENA VALE.
Her hand began to tremble.
Years ago, she had believed Serena was gone.
She had never expected to see her face again.
Vivian stood up and walked toward the window.
She remained there in silence.
Then she looked back at the phone.
Serena was alive.
And worse...
She was in Switzerland.
Vivian picked up the phone and called someone.
The call connected.
"Hello?"
Vivian didn't speak immediately.
The voice on the other end asked,
"What's wrong?"
Vivian stared at Serena's photograph.
"She's alive."
Silence.
"Who?"
Vivian swallowed.
"Serena."
The silence grew longer.
"Are you sure?"
Vivian's eyes remained fixed on the screen.
"I just saw her."
"Where?"
"Zurich."
The person on the other end didn't answer.
Vivian sat down slowly.
"After all these years..."
She looked at the photograph again.
"She came back."
Her voice was barely a whisper.
"And Jasper doesn't know."
Vivian ended the call.
For the first time in years, the calm expression she showed everyone was completely gone.
She stood there staring at Serena's photograph.
Then her eyes moved to the photograph of Jasper sitting beside it.
Her voice was quiet.
"Not again."
GENEVA
Serena returned home that night without knowing what had happened.
The children ran toward her as soon as she entered.
"Mom!"
She laughed as they surrounded her.
"I missed you too."
Maya watched from the doorway.
"How was the reception?"
"Fine."
"Did you take pictures?"
"A few."
Serena placed her bag down.
She had no idea that one of those photographs had just reopened a chapter she had spent years trying to close.
And somewhere in Zurich, Vivian was looking at that same photograph.
This time, she knew exactly who Serena was.
And she knew Serena was no longer alone.
