Light novel = A type of book in Japan which is characterised by having manga-style images in combination with regular story text. This type of media isn’t really that popular in the West, and doesn’t get scanlated or translated very often, which is too bad, because a lot of light novels do get turned into anime or manga, but you always lose some of the original content that way. My Japanese isn’t good enough to read them, so I can never read the books that some of my favourite anime are based on, sadly enough.
