Torin's POV:
I have been glancing back at Enzo and what's her face every few minutes. It is quite clear that Enzo is very eager to search the girl for her birth mark to see if it matches. That is, if she even has one. I mean let's be real, what are the chances that this random girl that walked up on us drinking from someone is his actual soul mate?
But then again, love is a funny thing, and you can just run into your other half in the weirdest places while not even looking. I know I was not looking for a soul mate when Winnie stumbled upon me. But still this girl might not hold Enzo’s matching birth mark. Well, if she did not, then at least I would get one thing out of it, to taste her sweet smelling blood before we wipe her memory and let her go.
"No you won't." Novak interrupts my thoughts.
"What the?.. Really Novak? You were reading my mind?" I asked, annoyed at his power.
"You’re unpredictable at times, Torin. I don't want you attacking Enzo's possible soulmate." He said in a hushed tone so that the human could not hear.
"We don't even know if she is," I interrupted. "You remember last time we thought that one woman was Enzo's soulmate. It practically tore him apart having to kill her." In normal circumstances, we would not have to take such drastic measures. However, that was a special case. That woman was filled with sinister intentions and left us no choice but to dispose of her. You would not believe the extent she would go through to try to get Enzo to be with her forever.
If this girl is his soul mate, then I truly hope that she is not insane. Enzo does not deserve to have to go through something like that ever again. He did not even deserve to go through it the first time. If they are not meant to be, we can just have Novak erase her mind a little, maybe get a quick bite, and return her back to her home. If she is not the right one, then we are taking an unnecessary risk in taking her around with us.
"Have a little faith, Torin." Novak said as he placed a hand on my shoulder, keeping his focus on the road. He really is the father figure of our group. He is also the most optimistic one out of all of us, besides the girls. For whatever reason, the girls were all unusually jolly and hopeful most of the time about absolutely everything. I do not understand it, but I am admittedly thankful for it. They kept our spirits up and made life not seem so dreadful.
"Fine, but for Enzo's sake, not hers. And stay out of my head, would ya'? You’re just lucky I wasn't thinking about Winnie." I replied, causing Novak to chuckle lowly. Novak could be a pain at times. He really needs to learn to value others’ privacy.
Eve's POV:
"Um, w-where are we going?" I asked while slightly shaking. Enzo must have heard the weakness in my voice and felt my shaking. He took his left arm and pulled me closer.
"There’s no need to be afraid." Enzo said before moving his arm from my waist to around my shoulder, resting it comfortably. He left practically no space in between us. There went that feeling again. It felt almost like electricity, causing butterflies in my stomach.
I noticed that it was not quite as intense when our skin did not come in direct contact. I strangely like the way that it feels. I know that it is unusual, but I like being close to Enzo. His temperature is a bit chilly which is soothing and oddly cozy. My mouth moved before my brain did again, letting curiosity get the best of me.
"Why are you so cozy? Although you’re chilly, you’re not freezing cold. Shouldn’t you be cold and hard?" I asked. I kept my tone hushed, so that hopefully only he could hear me. All the words just kind of blurted out of me. I believe my words took him a bit by surprise. It was like he was not expecting me to talk to him, or talk at all for that matter.
He laughed for a second before firmly answering with another question. "You watch too many vampire movies, don't you?"
"You didn't answer my question." I said a little harshly. I did not really mean to say it that harsh, or did I? All that I know is that I am scared and confused about this whole situation. I am not getting any answers, and he is just toying with me. He was, however, right about my knowledge of vampires being based on movies.
To be fair, I did not even know that their existence was real. I assure you that had I been aware that they are real, I would have done extensive research about them. I also would not be venturing out when the sun was down. Since I am around them now, I need to learn as much about them as I possibly can in order to survive. However, I am not sure that they would willingly be giving me the answers that I really needed.
"And you didn't answer mine." He answered back. His tone was not quite as harsh as mine was. You could tell he was displeased with how I answered him.
"Fine, don't answer it then." I said in the same harsh tone I had used previously, only this time I no longer mind the volume of my voice.
"Fine." Enzo replied just as cold. He removed his arm from around my shoulders. I instantly missed the feeling that his body gave mine. I noticed Dean and Quinton turn their heads slightly to glance back at us. Novak peeked at us through the mirror, while Torin just smirked with his arms crossed looking out the window at the passing scenery. To be honest, I momentarily forgot that they were all there. It was hard to focus on anything but the two of us when we were touching. It’s a good thing that Enzo moved his arm. Now maybe I can think more clearly.
We passed by multiple restaurants and my stomach began to rumble. It had been hours since I had ate anything. The girls and I had ended up waiting for the guys far longer than we initially intended. We were not prepared for our trip being as long as it ended up being. We most definitely should have packed snacks. We were going to go out to eat afterwards, but that clearly is not going to happen now.
"Do you want something to eat?” I heard Novak call from up front. I look up to see him looking at me through the mirror. I guess he had heard my stomach growl.
"I-uh.." But before I had time to give a legitimate answer, he was pulling into a restaurant. Is this a sign that they plan on letting me go? Will they just feed me, tell me to never speak about this night again, and then release me?
"Is this fine?" He asked. But what did it matter? He is already here. He ordered for me, getting a burger meal. It came with a cheese burger, fries, and he got a sweet tea for me to drink. Novak even asked for ranch for my fries. Woah, it was like he read my mind, which was kind of cool, but also admittedly a little strange. They all ordered something. Did they eat food or was it for someone else? Quinton passed a bag back to Enzo and me. I reached my hand out to receive the bag containing our food, but Enzo snatched it before I had a chance to grab it.
"Hey!" I said while furrowing my eyebrows at Enzo. Dean handed me my sweet tea and a straw. I gave him a small polite smile, which he returned, only his smile was bigger and more friendly. I unwrapped the straw and inserted it into the lid. I took a sip and was pleased with the sweet taste.
"Don't worry, you can have your food if you tell me your name." Enzo responded. He looked at me and gave a toothy grin. Enzo held the bag out of my reach so that I could not even attempt to try and get it.
"Easy enough, I'm Molly!" I lied. I took another drink of my tea, avoiding his eyes.
Enzo seemed convinced and was about to hand over the food until Novak chuckled from up front and commented, "She's lying."
"Am not!" I shouted. How could Novak possibly know if I was lying or not? Was I not convincing enough with my words?
"Give it up, he reads minds." Torin called out. He seemed annoyed. I wonder if it was at me? I am not thrilled to be in this situation either. Hold up, did he just say that Novak could read minds? Was that even possible? Then again, were vampires even possible? I still had my doubts despite what I had already witnessed.
"No way." I said in disbelief. So they had powers now did they? The super speed had been proven by Enzo, but mind reading seems a little out there. I would need more proof.
"Wanna try again?" Enzo questioned as he glanced down at me. He did not seem angry with my deceit. If anything, he seemed a bit amused.
“Fine, it’s Jessie.” I replied. I wonder if Novak is really capable of reading minds? Would he be able to figure out what my real name is by this? I thought over and over in my head ‘My name is Jessie.’
“Good try,” Novak says with a laugh, “but just thinking over and over in your head that your name is Jessie isn’t convincing.” He was pretty specific, but I still had my doubts. He certainly took me by surprise when he pointed out precisely what I was thinking, but perhaps it was something in my facial expressions that could have indicated what I was doing.
Torin, Dean, and Quinton are already eating their meals. Dean and Quinton have a look of amusement on their faces. They take bites of their food and sip their drinks as they listen to the conversations going on around them. They seem to be thoroughly entertained by everything that is happening.
“Wow, so you really can read minds.” I go along with their game. “My name is actually Isabella.” I look over at Enzo and held my hand out, ready to receive my food. However, by now Enzo seemed to be onto me and was not too eager to hand over the bag. There was a pause.
Enzo was seemingly waiting for Novak to inform him of if I was telling the truth or not. You know..because Novak could supposedly read minds. I mean honestly.. I am still not sold on the whole idea that they are legitimately vampires. Could they truly pull off being some sort of rock star creatures of the night?
I mean, the whole fang thing Enzo showed me still has me wondering how he could have possibly done that. Then again...there was the fact that they were incredibly fast. Still, now they are saying that there are supposed powers involved. This all seems like too much. I feel like they might be taking advantage of an already scary situation and choosing to toy with me.
“A couple of things..” Novak calls out as he takes glances at me from the rear view mirror up front. “We are truly not trying to mess with you or play any kind of games. I understand this whole situation is a bit upsetting for you, but know that no harm will come to you. You will get your answers soon and then we will be on our way and you on yours. Also, your name is not Isabella. To better convince you..how about you think of a word, any word, and I shall tell you what it is.” And here I thought he said they are not trying to play any sort of games with me. I guess I will play along for now.
“Fine.” I say. What word shall I choose? I need to pick something more complex that someone would not easily guess. How about porcelain? Yeah, that should do the trick. I look back at Novak and give him a slight nod to let him know that I had chosen a word for him to guess.
“Porcelain.” Novak answers. My jaw drops in shock. There was no way that he could have possibly guessed that. So it is true that he could actually read minds.. That is just even more that I have to process about this already complicated situation.
“So, I ask again. What is your name?” Enzo questions me. I tried to think about whether any possible harm could come to me by giving away my first name.
