Chapter Three: The midnight knock ✊

734 Words
“You can stop looking now. I’m done with the check-up.” “I was not looking. I was just admiring your stethoscope,” I said quickly. He smiled and said, “Okay, if you say so.” “Doctor… I do not know your name. How can you attend to a patient without telling your patient your name?” I hissed. “My name? And why do you want to know my name? How is my name affecting you, Miss Cherry?” “I’m just saying. You should have told me when I came in.” He smiled, put his glasses on and said, “But Miss, you did not ask for my name. And I do not feel like telling you.” “Huh! How can you be so unbelievable. I just… I do not need your name. I was just asking in case something happens to me. I need to tell them the name of the doctor that treated me.” “Because I, Cherry, do not trust you.” “Why do God have to give you such a fine look, but still be so cold towards me,” she thought. I stomped out without collecting my result. _5 hours later_ “Gosh, I did not collect my result. How foolish of me. Should I go back?” “No, no Cherry. You can’t go back. You just argued with him. You can come back another time when he is not on duty. Come on Cherry, you are smart.” He should be back right now, she thought. Then she heard a noise. She checked and saw him. Should she call him now or not? But she did not know his name. She screamed in her house. He heard it and said, “Huh. What is wrong with her? She is so weird and cute at the same time. But too annoying.” He smiled and entered his house. _Later that day_ “Should I check up on her? But it is her fault. She did not even ask how to use the drugs. Why do I care? I need to sleep.” “Cherry, you do not know how to use these drugs and you did not ask.” She started faking crying. _Knock knock_ She shouted, “I’m coming! Who is that?” She opened it, furious. And there he was. “WOW. Dr. Next Door. What did you just call me ’Dr. Next Door, since you will not tell me your name.” Then she coughed. Then he brought out his hand, holding soup and medicine. “You’ve been coughing through the wall for hours now,” he grumbled. “Awww. Dr. Next Door, you care about me this much?” He could not make eye contact with her. Then she said, “Do you like me?” He looked at her and said, “No. I do not want you to die. Because if you do, I will be a suspect.” “So you do not want me to die at all. So nice of you.” She started coming closer. He was going back. She kept coming closer, until… Next thing, she took his ID card from his pocket. He was shocked and impressed. Then she said, “So you have a name. Dr. Joel. Joel. What a nice name.” Then he was like, “Give me back my ID card. Or else.” “Or else what, Dr. Joel? Do you want to call the police that your neighbor is maltreating you?” He smiled and said, “No.” Then he started coming closer, closer, closer… until he was inside her house. “Stop,” she said. But he kept coming until he reached her. She almost fell. He grabbed her waist and pulled her closer. Then they made eye contact for 5 minutes. Then they both got nervous and separated. “ID card,” he said. She scratched her head and gave back his ID card. Then he left immediately. And she closed her door. And he closed his door too. They both stood at their doors, still thinking about what just happened. Then she said, “Gosh, his eyes are so…” Then he said, “OMG, she is cute.” Both of them left the door blushing 😊 “But neither of them slept that night .”
