DANTE'S POV My entire resolve broke the moment she asked me to get in the water. I got into the water immediately and made my way back to her. "What do you want to know?" she asked when I got closer. "I don't know. Anything," I replied. "You're going to have to be more specific than that," she deadpanned. "Your childhood," I requested, and she grimaced. "Straight into the childhood trauma? No favorite food or anything?" she joked, but her voice sounded heavy. "I'm sorry. Is that a sore topic? You don't have to—" "Please shut up, Dante. You asked, I'll tell you," she said and walked over to the edge of the pool so she could sit down and put her legs in the water. "My childhood was messy. I'm an only child, and my parents—well, they tried to make me happy, but that didn't last long.
