Eleanor
It wasn’t supposed to bubble.
That was the first thought that came to my mind as the chemicals in my glass tube turned a thick vomit green, bubbling aggressively to the top, while majority of the tubes near me were a clear pink.
“s**t!” I cursed, earning the attention of the teacher whose glare soon turned to that of panic.
“Watch out!” Miss Sanchez yelled, and I moved in time for the glass to explode, and the liquid inside sizzle as soon as it touched the surface of the wooden table.
I looked at my failed experiment in irritation, ignoring the snickering and laughter from the rest of the students.
“Even a pup would not turn what’s supposed to be a simple sedative, into a nuclear bomb.” Sanchez shook her head in disapproval, patting my shoulder. “It’s not too long to rethink joining potion classes, Grayehr.”
It was the first day of school and three hours in, I was already royally pissed.
“You look like you want to hurt someone.” Ava, always quick to notice my mood swings, frowned as we met outside the class, heading to the locker room to get our clothes for training.
“I failed potion classwork.” I hissed, then rolled my eyes when she burst out laughing.
We had extra slots for extra classes, and despite Ava telling me all night that I didn’t look like I belonged in potion class, I had insisted.
It had sounded cool.
“And what was this classwork?”
“Sedatives.” the rest of our journey to the locker was me narrating my epic fail, and her laughing at me, even garnering unwanted attention.
We got to the locker room and stripped, pulling on red sports polos, red shorts, white sneakers, with a pair of red socks.
“Feels like high school all over again.” I grimaced, looking at my reflection in the mirror.
“At least it’s short and sexy.” Ava smirked, her eyes on my legs. “Look at those legs. I’m jealous!”
I wanted to tell her she was being silly because her legs were one of the things I had noticed when we had met, but the bells rang, and I heard Draco’s voice through the speakers instructing us to head to the arena.
“s**t! I didn’t even realised we had been here that l_” someone bumped into me, cutting my words off.
“Watch it, weakling!” Jasmine hissed, flipping her blonde hair as she walked past me.
My nostrils flared in annoyance and I made for her, intending to pull her by her ponytail, but Ava held me back.
“Remember the rules, El.” she put an arm over my shoulder as we watched her walk away. Jasmine turned then, her eyes sharp, and gave us a dirty look, before she disappeared into a corner.
“You shouldn’t have held me back.” I hissed.
What even was her problem with me? First it was the room, and now bumping into me when there was a whole empty ass space beside me, enough to fit a f*****g truck.
“We are headed to the arena. The rules are different there.” Ava said with a wink.
We headed out to the arena, joining the sea of red which was assigned to our tower.
Jasmine stood in front, her shorts altered to look even shorter.
I rolled my eyes and turned, stilling when I saw the big six arrive.
Ezra, who walked in last, had his hands in the pockets of his black sweatpants, and a red hoodie over his head.
His eyes searched the crowd, then landed on me.
A hard look crossed his face, and I felt a nudge on the mindlink.
“Why are you putting on red?” His voice was icy, and I regretted letting him in.
“What do you think, genuis?” I retorted, forcing my gaze away from him to Yohan who was making an announcement.
“Didn’t I tell you to stay away from me? Why are you in my f*****g tower? Did you and Carden plan this?”
I gasped, earning a concerned look from Ava. “Hey, are you okay?” she asked.
I nodded. “I’m fine. Just clearing my throat.” I lied, and for effect, rubbed my chest.
She frowned, but looked away.
Ezra’s voice came again. “Answer me, beetle!” he snapped.
“Don’t call me that! And since when do you pay to be in a particular tower? If it’s possible, then let me know, because I sure as hell do not wan’t to spend my time in the academy being in the same space as you!” I snapped back, then looked in his direction to see him slide his fingers through his hair, causing the hoodie to fall back and expose his face.
Why couldn’t he be ugly?!
And why was he so full of himself!
“Like I want to be in_” I quickly blocked him, not wanting to get angrier than I already was.
I moved, half listening to Yohan as he grouped us, and pouted when somehow, I ended up in a different group with Ava.
Annoyed and alone, I walked off to the side, ignoring Ezra’s continous nudge on the link. Whatever he wanted to say, I didn’t care.
Besides, I was still pissed at him from the previous night.
When it had gotten to his turn to introduce himself, he had walked off, leaving everyone standing in confusion and awkwardness.
Although from the smirk on Draco’s face, and his behaviour, I could tell he definitely knew who I was.
A senior walked to our group, a tab in his hands, but just as he was about to speak, a familiar figure walked over, taking the tab from him. “Actually Daniel, I’ll be in charge of this group.” Ezra stated, arrogantly breezing past a confused Daniel, then turned to us.
