Alex's POV The safe house was nestled deep in the countryside, hidden among dense trees and far from prying eyes. We arrived just before dawn, the horizon streaked with hues of orange and pink. The exhaustion of the past 24 hours weighed heavily on me, but the adrenaline coursing through my veins refused to let me rest. I stepped out of the SUV and surveyed our surroundings. The old cabin was modest but sturdy, a perfect hideout. Isabella climbed out after me, her face pale and drawn. “Get inside,” I said, motioning toward the door. She didn’t argue, which worried me more than her usual defiance. As we entered, I bolted the door behind us and checked the windows to ensure they were secure.
