Isabella’s POV The silence in the room after Alex closed the door was oppressive. I could still feel the tension from the meeting with Monalisa, like a heavy weight pressing down on my chest. I paced back and forth, wringing my hands as the echoes of the confrontation played in my mind. What was on that USB drive? And why was Monalisa so desperate to get it? Alex sat on the couch, his head in his hands. He looked exhausted, like the weight of the world had settled on his shoulders. I wanted to comfort him, to reach out and tell him we’d figure this out, but I didn’t even know where to begin. “You’re wearing out the carpet,” Alex said, his voice muffled by his hands.
