Drakein let out a gasp, “But that…that would mean—”
Castor braced his body as he stared at Drakein intently. “I was born an animal, with a creature’s mind and instincts. When Apophis found Earth after the meteor strike, he changed the survivors of my world. It was necessary to breed with humans.”
“Apophis gave you sentience?” I sounded the words out slowly. The implications of what he was saying were mind-boggling.
“Yes, we were intelligent for animals but not to the level of Earth’s primates.” Castor ducked his head. “I think Apophis saw it as challenge to match us to the humans instead of a similar animal. Or perhaps it was because there was more than one species he wanted to save and he made us all compatible with humans since they were so adaptable.”
