Lance's POV I sat in my dimly lit study, the weight of paperwork and responsibilities consuming my focus. Candlelight flickered, casting shadows across my face as I allowed myself a brief pause to contemplate Aurora. The memory of our wedding surfaced, and I admitted, almost reluctantly, that she did look beautiful that day. "And last night too…" I said to myself, thoughts of our wedding night, enveloping my head and causing me to shift uncomfortably. Yet, I swiftly reminded myself that our union was devoid of love, it was all politics, a calculated transaction. Attempting to regain my concentration, I went back into the paperwork, the quiet room filled with rhythmic scratch of the quill on parchments. A knock disrupted the quiet sanctuary of my study. The door creaked open, revealing Benita, draped in seduction and touchiness that had grown wearisome. "Alpha Lance," she dragged, "I was wondering if you had a moment for me." I looked her over, "Benita, we've discussed this. I'm working." Her pout persisted, "Is it because you're married now?" a mockery of the word 'married' laced in her tone. My glare deepened. "I'm not in the mood, Benita. Leave." She continued to argue, a blend of persistence and whining. Another knock resonated through the room, and tension gripped me. "Who is it?" I asked. Aurora's voice reached me, and without hesitation, I commanded, "Leave, Benita." Her protests lingered briefly and rolling my eyes, I went to the door, just in time to see Aurora standing there, her lips trembling as she bowed to me. "Aurora, what are you doing here?" I asked sternly. Tears stream down my face, a silent testament to the hurt that engulfs me. I wish I could just run away, escape the complexities that surround this royal life. As I sit there, my mind races, wondering why my stepfather would harbor such disdain that he'd willingly sell me into this arrangement. The thought of being handed over to someone like Alpha Lance, who seems indifferent at best, fills me with a profound sense of betrayal. It's the emotional turmoil that cuts deepest—the knowledge that I care more than he ever will. As I sat there, I heard someone approaching me and looked up to see he Beta, immediately I wipe away my tears. He approaches with a respectful bow. "Good evening, Luna," he greets me formally, his tone cordial. "Good evening Beta…um.." "Carl." He introduced. "You seem troubled, is everything alright?" I nod immediately, "Yes, yes." "May I inquire what has troubled you?" I look up, my eyes still damp with unshed tears. "It's nothing, Carl," I reply, my voice soft yet holding a hint of vulnerability. He respects my reluctance to share, nodding understandingly. "If you wish not to speak of it, Luna, I won't press. However, I would be honored to escort you to your chambers. Perhaps some rest will bring some ease." I hesitate for a moment, then nod appreciatively. "Thank you, Carl." As we navigate the corridors, Carl maintains a dignified silence. The weight of unspoken words hangs in the air, yet his presence provides a sense of reassurance. "I understand that the beginning might be overwhelming, Luna," he speaks, choosing his words carefully. "But I assure you, in time, things will find their balance between you and the Alpha." I glance at him, finding a genuine sincerity in his expression. "Do you really think so, Carl?" He nods, his steps steady as we approach the Alpha's chambers. "Yes, Luna. Adjustments take time, but in the grand tapestry of this realm, every thread finds its place eventually." As we reach the door, he bows respectfully. "Take heart, Luna. If you ever need guidance or simply someone to listen, know that I am here." With those words, he leaves me at the entrance, offering a reassuring smile and a bow before disappearing down the corridor. I take a deep breath, before opening the door and stepping into the room but as I enter, my eyes widen at the sight of maids packing my belongings. "What's going on?" I was confused. "Milady." They bowed. "The Alpha ordered for you to be moved to the left wing." One said, causing my heart to drop. Oh…wow. Before I can voice my confusion, Benita, the source of my recent torment, comes up suddenly behind me. Her tone drips with mockery as she utters a biting remark. "Well, well, seems like you're out of favor, dear Lady Aurora." I grit my teeth, refusing to let her see the extent of my vulnerability. As Benita breezed past me, she chuckled mockingly. "Hurry up, girls." She said to the maids, "I have a date with the Alpha soon, on that bed." My eyes widened as I gulped. The maids looking around in embarrassment. I stand there, a mix of hurt and annoyance, my heart pounding in my chest. The maids, oblivious to the emotional turmoil within, continue their work efficiently, packing my life into boxes as if erasing any trace of my presence. It's in this moment that I realize the harsh reality of my situation—the loneliness, the rejection, and the cruel indifference of those around me. I take another deep breath, gathering whatever strength remains within me. As the maids finish their task, I walk outside, watching as Benita shuts the door in my face, smiling with mocking glee. ******** In a few more minutes, I was alone seated in the middle of a lonely and quiet room. Unmoving and saying nothing. Someone knocked on the door and poked their head in and I saw it was Mia. Mia's gentle knock interrupts my thoughts, and as she enters, bowing respectfully, I can no longer contain the wave of emotions that crashes over me. Without a word, I stood up and rushed towards her, wrapping her in a desperate hug. Mia staggers before whispering soothing words, "It'll be okay, Milady. I'm so sorry to see you suffer like this." I pull away, tears staining my cheeks, "I never wanted to marry him, Mia. But I can't bear to live like this. It's only been a day, and I feel so miserable.” Mia continues to console me, her empathy a gentle balm for the wounds inflicted by the unfolding circumstances. "I know it's tough, Milady. But you're stronger than you think. Lady Benita…she's a nobody." I sigh and sit back on the gloomy bed. "But yet, she managed to kick me out of my matrimonial bed in just one day. ****** Days turned into weeks and soon, I realized that this was my life now. The lonely and unwanted Luna wife of Lance. I came to accept it, finding a little comfort in my friendship with Mia and the beautiful garden. It was another morning and I sat on my bed, eating breakfast that seemed a little too good all of a sudden. Mia, always a ray of sunshine was arranging my clothes, telling me about the date she just had with the gardener. "It was so romantic, Milady." She giggled, "He's such a gentleman." "I'm really happy for you, Mia." I smiled, however, my attention waned, and a sudden wave of nausea washed over me. Excusing myself, I hurried to the nearest bathroom, retching out the contents of my stomach and proceeding to wash my face and mouth afterwards. When I returned, Mia regarded me with a puzzled expression, her concern evident. "Again, Milady?" "Mia," I said weakly, attempting to brush off the significance of my physical discomfort, "it's just a little stomach upset. Nothing to worry about." But Mia, with her keen intuition, disagreed. "Milady, this is the fifth time in two days. Something's not right." "Oh, it's nothing." She walked closer to me, peering at my face. "I grew up with five older sisters, Milady. I've seen this before," she takes a deep breath, "it's obvious–you're pregnant." The revelation hung in the air, a quiet acknowledgment of a profound shift in the tides of my life. Staring into Mia's eyes, I felt a mix of fear and uncertainty. "What do I do now, Mia?”
