Chapter Nine Dayton A few days into his work-at-home plan, Dayton was awakened by a quiet knock. “Senor, Senor. Miss Cindy want see you. Miss Cindy here.” He turned his head toward the bedroom door and moaned as a stab of pain shot through his right eye. God almighty, this was a good one. He looked at the large wall of glass on the other side of the bedroom and saw with alarm that the sun was already intruding into the room. He thought of the night before, same as every night, when that quiet voice had asked, “Why don’t you just stop now, Dayton?” He’d decided to go ahead and finish the rest of the scotch, though, and now—damn it all to hell— he wasn’t going to feel human again until late this afternoon. “Mr. Dayton.
