Javier arrived at the Toms mansion, went inside, and saw Ilenia looking lost.
"What's wrong?"
Ilenia handed him the documents, and he read them. He was surprised, turned somber, and his expression became furious.
"Damn it, this guy stole all your money, sweetheart, but don't worry, I'll get it all back into your hands."
Ilenia turned pale and covered her face with her hands. "What do I do now, Javi? I don't have much money and I still haven't found a job."
Javier looked at her sadly and simply smiled.
"Don't worry, not everything is lost, but we will have to get rid of the company to cover the losses and avoid legal conflicts. Let me handle everything. As for your inheritance, that's a separate matter," he sighed and continued, "as things stand, they only seized your assets to conduct an investigation. After the legally stipulated period, everything will be returned to you."
Ilenia nodded and just told him she was leaving everything in his hands since she trusted him more than anyone else in the world.
Javier left to carry out the necessary arrangements and left Ilenia at her house to organize everything she had pending.
Ilenia went upstairs and stood in front of her parents' room, tears ran down her cheeks for a while. She sighed and retreated to her room, started checking her bank balance, and realized she had very little money, just over a hundred thousand, which wouldn't last long. She was lost in her thoughts as she didn't know what to do with the mansion since it was too big to maintain and at that moment she didn't have the money. Absorbed in her thoughts, she didn't realize her phone was ringing. She looked at it and didn't recognize the number, hesitated but answered.
"Hello."
"Hello, do you remember me? I'm the elderly gentleman you helped the other day. I remember we didn't introduce ourselves, dear. Could I invite you to lunch to make up for the other day?"
Ilenia didn't know what to say and paused to think for a moment when the old man's voice snapped her out of her daze, "It's okay if you don't want to. These days no one wants to spend time with the elderly, no problem, dear."
Ilenia felt embarrassed and replied immediately, "No, not at all, I was just checking some things. It's fine, we'll meet for lunch."
The old man smiled with a mix of satisfaction and mischief.
"Very well, dear, see you at 12 at the Pott restaurant. Ask for Mr. Mayer's table. See you later, dear," he hung up the call.
*Could he really be the grandfather of the great Samuel Mayer?* Ilenia thought to herself, sighed, and continued with her tasks. After a while, Hilda knocked on the door.
"Come in," said Ilenia.
Hilda entered looking serious and somewhat nervous, fidgeting with her fingers. Ilenia noticed but didn't give it much importance.
"Tell me, Hilda, what's going on?"
"Miss Ilenia, we want to know what will happen with the Toms mansion, as I heard you lost everything. What will happen to us? There are a total of five workers. What will we do?"
"Hilda, don't worry, I'm still discussing it with Javier, and don't be afraid. If it can't be maintained, you will be compensated according to the law, rest assured."
According to the law, Hilda thought to herself, what's wrong with her? I've worked in this house for over 20 years. At my age, finding another job won't be easy. This girl must be out of her mind.
"Well, we expect a satisfactory solution for all of us, miss," she said without any hesitation.
Ilenia was stunned by the way this woman responded and just nodded. Hilda left the room a bit upset and headed to the backyard, where the other employees were. She approached them and began to tell them what they had talked about.
"Well, I'll tell you quickly before Miss Ilenia looks for me. She says we will be compensated according to the law, but how is that possible if she's ruined? I heard it from the lawyer," she said, raising her hands in anger.
"These rich folks are such liars, especially when they're backed into a corner. I say we don't wait to see what happens; let's go ahead and sue, make her sell this house so we can get our payout and some extra compensation," said the man who had been the house chauffeur until that day.
Everyone nodded in agreement and continued planning the lawsuit.
"Alright, this house is worth a fortune, and we deserve a hefty compensation for all the years we've served this family, so we're not waiting any longer. We're going tomorrow," said Hilda to all the employees, and everyone nodded and left without further ado.
In her room, Ilenia had finished her tasks, took a bath, and got dressed. Feeling more like herself, she slipped into some designer black jeans, a long-sleeved lilac blouse, and black heels, applied some light makeup, and grabbed her purse. She was about to leave for lunch with the great Mr. Mayer when her phone rang.
"Hello, Javier."
"Hello sweetheart, I've already dropped off all the documents at the court. In a few days, we'll have the resolution, so please, don't worry. Hey, will you stay at Lilian's house or yours?"
Ilenia thought for a moment and sighed.
"I don't know yet, I'll let you know later."
"Alright, it's just that (sigh) I've got to leave town for a few days. It pains me to leave you alone at this time. I have to attend to my father's affairs in Italy, and you know those are confidential, so I won't have communication once I reach the airport. Please leave messages, and as soon as I can check my phone, I'll get in touch with you."
"Don't worry, you've got everything sorted, what else could possibly go wrong? Go and take care of your dad's affairs, see you when you get back, have a good trip."
"Until my return sweetheart, take good care of yourself."
